View Full Version : Tips for new members!

If you are a new member who has just signed up for a membership, please make sure you validate it by clicking on the link that is contained in the email you are sent. If you did not receive the email, you most likely made a mistake when you entered it during the sign up process. You can easily fix that by going into your profile and correcting the email address. The message board will then automatically send you out an additional confirmation email. You click on the link contained in it, and you're good to go.
Recently, we've had a number of members join up and enter their email addresses incorrectly. The memberships are therefore sitting in a pending file waiting for the email to be confirmed and then we will be able to approve them.
So, if you're a new member that has recently signed up and having problems, this is likely the cause. If you require further help, you can also contact me and I will do my best to help you out and get you going. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

We currently don't allow members to upload files to our servers.
If you send them to me I'll get them loaded for you.

What forum are you trying to start a new topic in Bob? In most you just click New at the top of your tabs and then "discussion". That will open up a dialogue box where you can start the new thread.

thanx chris .thats what i've been tyring . i got it to work once after your reply .can't do it again .it won't open the dialogue box . it seems like it wants to , with just a "flash" on the very top line of my screen . man this is why i let "trained professionals" work on my checkmate instead of doing it myself....

It sounds like it could be a security setting. Some popup blockers won't allow the dialogue box to open up. Or, it could be a browser compatibility issue. The new board uses advanced CSS and XHTML and some browsers don't support some features. Compatible browsers would be IE 5.5 or above for most people. Or the latest version of whatever type you use.

How do you get a picture to be with your name when you post something?
Chris

The picture is called an avatar.
You need to crop a picture to around 145 pixels by 145 pixels. You then go into your profile where you can upload that pic from your desktop.

I was just wondering why we are not allowed to post pics of our Checkmate boat if we are members!
Thanks

The reason why Chris will not allow pictures to be uploaded directly to the site is band width. This is the storage space allowed on the server this board is running on. To set up this site on a server requires you to buy space or band width. When the allotted amount is used up Chris gets a bill for anything above the current plan. By controlling the pictures that are uploaded directly to the server Chris can control (to a point) the amount of band witdh. Its kind of like a cell phone, you buy a plan that has a set amount of miniutes, when you go over, it cost you extra. As the board grow's so does the band width reqirement.
