My '88 enchanter is rated at 8 people. But...it has 2 bucket seats and a bench which only fits 3. So the remaining three can fit laying down in the play pen up front which is only about 20" high. and tappers to conform to the hull shape. Not very comfy.
I do know that the calculation has something to do with length + or x the width divided by a constant.

The # of people are based on an average weight per person divided into the total capacity of a boat. No way your fitting the people listed on most boats into them, unless you lay on top of eachother on the floor like sardines.

i can't imagine a 23 foot bow rider that will only carry 6 people
so they are saying that this boat does not have enough flotation or what

I've had 6 adults and 6 kids in my 230BR and she hasn't sunk yet. That's with a full cooler of Frescas and a big-block to boot...

yeah but if the coast guard stops someone overloading the boat the operator is liable
why would you even make an open bow boat with 10 seats and then rate it for only 6
i was hopeing someone from the factory or the dealer in conneticut selling this new boat would have stepped up
maybe they just put the wrong plate on the boat
if not well i know i would never buy one just for this reason
