I just purchased my '87 Starlet. I currently have the 4.3 V-6 OMC 205 HP. After the season here in NY is over, I would like to upgrade my engine over the winter. What do you recomend? Can I put a chevy small B in? Maybe a 5.0 ot a 5.7?
Thanks!

I've never done it but it looks to me like a marine 350 would fit OK. Don't put a car motor in it, you'll regret it.

I just upgraded my diplomat from a 4 cly to a 305 v8
If I would not have had a complete package to work with, I dont think I could have done it.

i agree w/ dave, without all the hardware it would be very difficult to swap.

mounts and acessorys are the same form the v6 to the v8
you will need a complete motor with intake and exaust manifolds
carb and flywheel
coupler should be the same
although not sure about omc so much
it might be better to find a take out

Most suspect part would be the drive. The Cobra was not the strongest drive on the market. I thought someone said a mercruiser tranom assy would fit the same hole.
Might be best to get a complete package(engine, drive and transom assy.)
The cobra does not turn as well, does not trim as well, and harder to find props for.
Sorry for the bad news.
Look at the 320 hp 6.2 liter Mercruiser
Now that would be cool!!!

Chinaride,
I noticed you have a 330 HO motor, did you change the cam in it? What are you using for manifolds? Your sig says 400 hp, what mods did you do to get to that number? Thanks in advance.
