Today was my first time in a boat over 100mph. It was crazy. It was in a 28 foot cat with a 700 horse blown 509 in it. It was a custom built cat by the owner. He builds hulls for a living. But the ride was amazing, it felt like we were floating. We were hitting 2-3 foot waves and its like we were hitting ripples in the water. We were out testing my boat and his boat, trying different props and stuff. Well lets just say his boat was a lot faster then mine for awhile, untill he blew the motor and I had to tow him back. We were running along about 80 and next thing you know there was smoke coming from the cuddy and from the hood scoop, and the motor shut itself off, not good. But I guess he didnt care to much, he said he has a bigger motor he is going to put in it later in the winter..But all I have to say is going 60 in my boat is cool, but doing over a 100 in a big boat is awsome.

I rode in a Yami powered Mirage Jaguar pickle fork back in the early 90's at 114 mph with my buddy at the wheel. We used to swap boats...mine for skiing and his for, well, haulin' azzzzz. I drove his to 98 mph myself before my ex "tapped out". The trees along the side of the river were just a green blur.

Just about every Liberator cat I rig and sell does over 100. I've had my flamer up to 127.6!

I got a ride this summer in a 18'6" Mirage powered by a 300x with some Simon upgrades. When my eyes stopped watering(I was wearing goggles) I noticed the 110 mph mark. What a rush ! I always wanted to experience 100+ on the water. I was amazed how well it handled. We crossed over a few fishing boat wakes at 80+ and they were nothing but a ripple under the boat.

Ran 127 mph GPS in "The Flyer" 47' Fountain Single Canopy with Staggered Sterling 1000's and #6 Dry Sump drives. The boat was originally built for Reggie but purchased and raced by Jim Horn from Lighthouse Point, FL. The boat flipped in Key West in 1998...it now sits completely unrigged and for sale. Boat was layed up at the Douglas Skater Factory by Peter Hledin..built all epoxy layup..weighs less than 5000 lbs. A mere $30,000 buys one hell of a boat!!!!

I raced with "DIRTY LAUNDRY OFF SHORE" in the early 90s. I've been 165mph in a 48 ft ,all aluminum cat w/ 4 575ci Keith Eikert motors & #12 arneson drives, on the Hudson river. But thats not as exciting as going 102mph in my old drag airboat, ( in 400 feet). 13 ft w/ a 540ci 6 cylinder aircraft engine that was fuel injected & supercharged.

In 1979 I put together a 1979 21 ft. Checkmate Enchanter. color blue and sliver with a Chevy 454 ci DualTurbo Charged 850 hp with a custom built 4 inch shorter Super Speedmaster outdrive that ran 119mph on a Keller speeodmeter. Next was a Hydrostream 15 ft.Viper with a Mercury T3-OZ motor that ran 115mph. Then in 1972 I built a Checkmate 18ft Jetmate with a 466ci big block Chevy with dual carbs that ran89mph in the quater mile drag's at 12.51 et. we had 3 world records with a Checkmate Jetmate. Then a Checkmate 25FT Convincor with 2 Mercury 3.4 EFI Racing outboards that ran over 100 plus mph. Than in 1984 I build a 30ft Shadwo Cat with duel all Alluminum Keith Black Chevy 510ci 1100hp duel turbo Charged with Number 5 SpeedMaster outdrives and custom build 3 speed Transmission's. Then in 1990 i built a Checkmate 22ft Vision with a Chevy 540ci Dual Turbo Charged 1056 hp Sammie-Action Marine

The guy I bought my trimate from had a Euro ski, went 101.2 in that.
The gent that built my 2.4 builds motor for liquid 1/4 drags. There is nothing like sitting on the floor behind the driver and running 110mph in a Allison drag boat. Dam that was fun.
I have been running about 65 in 1-2' chop getting the crap beat out of us and had Randy go by me in the flamer, I remember him saying he was running just over 100. I thought that was real funny at the time because as he went by he waved.

back in the late 70's I worked with a friend of mine on a drag boat, unblown gas hydro, did all our testing in the creek I still boat out of. he ran it in the low 120's in the quarter, I made a 119 pass...neat ride in a 18' boat !!!!

SCT and I took a ride on a little lake in Ohio with Harold Kunkle years ago. He had a Checkmate 235 Persuader closed bow with a big engine of his #'s unknown to us now. We were cruising at around a cool mid 80's when he hit the button on the bottle and the last number I remember seeing was 113. IT TOOK 3 DAYS TO GET THE SMILE OFF OF MY FACE.
