I finally got a chance to start my O/B and to my surprise the motor started. The motor is a 115hp Merc(1995) but it appears the carbs leak gas while its running and after it is shut off. Most of the gas seems to be dripping from the bottom of 2 carbs. There is a big screw at the bottom of the main body and that appears to be where the gas is dripping from.Don't know the history of the motor.Does this sound like a carb rebuild fix or something way more serious.Anybody know a ballpark price to have them rebuilt or can it be done by a some what mechanical person?THANKS

Yep a carb problem is what you have. If the carbs are up there in age they are in need of a rebuild. I had the same thing happen. I rebuilt the carbs, the needle and seat is the problem. I also installed new floats, this was a bit of overkill but I figured what the heck.

Where did you get the carb rebuild kits? Can a person do one at a time?Does a rebuild kit have parts for all 3 carbs or do you have to buy 3 kits?Do you remember the approximate cost?Thats about all I have is a bunch of questions.

Yes you can do the carbs one at a time. Watch where the jets go as they are sometimes (on a v-6) different. The kits are bought seperatly. What you will need id the engine serial number and the carb numbers. I got my kits from rickracer, http://www.rickracers.com/
Rick was real helpfull as my carbs had no numbers and wound up being off a MOD VP race motor. Very happy to find that out. The carb numbers are located on top of the carb body. They will be a WH and then a number. Give rick a call and he can get you a price, tell him 175checkmate sent ya.

Yep thats where they are at. Rick and Barb are good people. They had to work extra to help me out, nothing can be easy on the older mates. He even found the old style 2nd steering cable bracket for me. Have not bought that yet, but soon.

Went down to Rickracers this am but they weren't open, called later talked to Barb and got prices for carb kit.Mercury wants 20.20 and Rickracers price was 14.00.Barb thinks I only need the carb kit which should include the gaskets.Looked at the leaking carbs again today and 2 of the 3 leak at the very bottom of the carb at a big screw that according to the parts catalog holds in a metering rod or something technical.

I looked at the parts catalog again and the leaks are at the plug that holds the main nozzle in.There is no gasket shown in the diagram so there must be some kind of sealant needed on the threads during install.Maybe all I need is to take that plug out, apply some sealer and re-install it.

Mine have a small washer on the big plug, the main jets are behind them.
