I know this question is similar to the one below that was started by pulse171. But I am having a little different problem. I have a 1991 175 HP XRI Mercury outboard on my Checkmate. My boat runs great at speed the problem is when I idle. It will idle for about 5 minutes then it will stall and not start. I thought at first it was loading up and stalling but I then realized that a few pumps of the fuel bulb and it will start right up again and run fine . Now when I idle I just step back and pump the bulb a few times every couple of minutes and I can idle for as long as I like. Problem is that sucks, and I would like to try to figure out what the problem is without having to take it somewhere. Thanks a lot for any help you can offer.

I would say you have a problem with your low pressure fuel pump. At high speeds it pumps enough to keep up at the slower speed it can't keep enough fuel in the float reservoir. You can get a kit for it or you can buy the whole thing. check the pulse line that bends around to the top cover of the pump also.

Where can you get one of the rebuild kits and how hard of a job is it. I am pretty mechanicaly inclined but I am by no means a mechanic. Thanks again for the help.

Any Merc. dealer. The insructions come with the kit. It's not hard at all.
