How do you determine the gear ratio on a Bravo 1 drive?

There should be a tag on the left side of the upper unit where it mates to the lower unit that has the serial number and should have the gear ratio after it. or if you only have the serial number any mercruiser dealer can look it up and tell you what drive you have.

your probably a 1.50.. thats most of the big blocks.. you can go to a 1.31 if you wanna spin a bigger prop....

I'll check the tab next time I get a chance and see what the ratio is.

The rule of thumb is to stay with the 1.50 ratio unless you have enough power to spin a prop in the mid 30's range in pitch. Most of us don't and run a 1.50 drive.

A 1.36 ratio is more common with higher hp like vinny said. its a taller gear so you can run a smaller prop. with high hp you can run out of prop with a 1.50. I bought a 25' larson in 93 w/ a 502 mag carb and to my surprize it came with a 1.36 bravo drive but stock it wouldn't spin anything bigger than a 23 mirage at 4800 rpm. More than likely you have a 1.50 ratio
