Don't follow MX much these days. Used to race on the New England circuit, though. Rode a Suzuki TM and Montesa Cappra, both 125s. Had a Bultaco for a bit but never raced it. Wish I had hung on to these. The older MX bikes are pretty pricey to buy, if in good shape. Any one else ride?

Used to race a Bultaco too. Wasn't easy being the only red bike on the track!! God that thing could fly though.I raced new england too.Late 70's though. Middleboro, southwick, pepperal, waterboro. What was your number? Mine was 69( not by choice) 100/125 class

All right!! I grew up in Exeter NH and raced Middleboro quite a bit and occassioanlly Pepperell. In Maine we never missed the races in Lisbon and Leads Junction. They used to have a double header at these tracks (Sat & Sun). A weekend of races and Boones Farm! There was a track at the Lee raceway in NH for a short time too. My number was 104. I raced 70 - 73 so we may have been out there together, who knows. I used to love watching the big bikes crank those long sweeping Middelboro corners. Still have a dirt bike 85? I haven't for quite a while now. Remeber Jimmy Ellis?

What class did you race in? Yes I remember Jimmy Ellis!! I remember him and Greg Spooner racing head to head. What a show. Greg used to wheelee all the way aroud the track, What a show off. My dad owned a motorcycle shop in Plymouth Mass. (Eagles Cycle)I used to hang out at Spooners occationally.
I remember racing in Lisbon once. Never got to Leads Jctn.Allways loved the CZ's and Can-Ams! Yamaha and Suzuki just took over though. It was like a sea of yellow.
Haven't had a bike sinse I got married. It scares the hell out my wife. No room to ride off road any more everything is so developed or protected now.

That must hae been cool to have a Dad with a MC shop! I had two other high school firends that raced (Penton 125 & Maico 501). We would travel long distance to check out the new bikes. Sometimes we end up at a shed with only one model displayed. Bought my Montesa at Competition Cycle, Wilmington. The name Spooner sounds familiar. Did he ride a Maico? I remember a Maico that most always took 2nd behind Ellis. He used to take the Middleboro corners on the berm, shooting dirt everywhere. I also remember someone in the 100 class on a bultaco that most always won too. Then he was moved directly into the expert 125 class when he got a bit older. Name escapes me. I rode mostly in the Novice class but did win once and otherwise picked up points enough to move to amateur. Took a bad spill at Middleboro once (was run over). Took some of the courage out of me. Knew I wasn't going to make a career out of it. Didn't race the Bultaco, It was a 350 Alpina. Trail bike. Great bike. I have gotten a mediocre vintage MX mag for a year or so now. trust me when I tell you my dad's shop was a shack! Mostly repairs, but he could modify motors better than most! Spooner raced Yamaha, His dad owned Spooner Cycle Yamaha dealership. He was great to watch, 250, 125 classes I think. Really bad crash at southwick broke his hip I think. Throttle stuck wide open off the start and wasn't able to shut down at the corner. He had the hole shot so when he went down everyone ran over him!
