1987 STARFLIGHT. PREVOUS OWNER CLEAR COATED ONTOP OF THE GEL COAT. THE CLEAR COAT IS PEELING AND IS UNSIGHTLY. I ORIGINALLY THOUGHT THE BOAT HAD BEEN PAINTED OVER AND THEN CLEAR COATED BUT AFTER STRIPPING THE CLEAR COAT I FOUND THAT IT WAS GEL COAT NOT PAINT. HOW CAN I BRING THE SHINE AND LUSTER BACK TO THE GEL COAT.

Gotta wet sand it smooth and machine buff it with the proper gel coat polishing compounds to bring the shine back.

It can be done but it is very time consuming.I did it to my trimate and my ambasador.start with 800 grit and wet sand then 1000 grit then 1500.then buff with a good 3m or comprable compound. fast action then leveling then finess 3 to take the swirls out. Then three coats of wax to seal it up I use miqires pure wax with good results. Its for boats and rvs. good luck http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif

its a lot more than an afternoon or even weekend project . you need an air compresser , d/a sander . couple hundred bucks worth of sand paper and compounds and a lot of time . i'd have it painted by someone that knows what they're doing
