Today the wife and I decided to go to the river once again, since the last time out we had water pump problems . Here are some pictures from today.:) Merc245 i got the boat fenders this time.:thumb:

Yee Haa! On the water again :bigthumb:

Did you put up the bimini and see how it holds at speed? Does that depth sounder work?

looks like fun! i am dying to go for my first ride. it sounds like you had no problems this time.....that is good.

Merc i've got a pair of them.:thumb: Jw i didn't get a chance to open up the bimini top yesterday. I was checking water temp, water pressure, depth finder, etc. Everything is working. I'm getting some crazy reading on the wp gauge 5psi- 10 psi this is w/ the merc scoops i added. The river was trashy yesterday w/ floating grass. My wt gauge was at 160. But all in all was a good day.:D

That psi when WOT and best trim? Or is that an idle psi?
If that's a WOT psi, then you either need to lower the motor or look further into the cooling system. When I was running too high, the psi gauge would fluctuate enough to be noticeable.

That was a little over half throttle. I've got a steady stream of water coming out of the telltale. I'll check the engine height shortly.

5 is too low for half throttle. IF the psi gauge was solid on 5, and you've got good pissing, then either your gauge is way off or you still have restrictions to flow.

Jw i think i've got my engine too high. I'm about 2.5" below the pad from the cl of prop. Plus I found some grass between my merc scoops and the inlet holes this morning while checking the engine height. While idling i've got a steady stream of water. Here are some pictures kind of hard to tell from this angle.

2 1/2 below the pad shouldn't be too low with scoops. Wouldn't hurt to lower it to 4" below though, then see what the pressure reads. If it's the same, then you have internal issues still.

JW I'll have to unbolt my motor since my JP is all the way down. The motor is mounted in the 4th hole from the top. I think if i drop it to the third hole then I've got some room to adjust. As it sits right now i can only go up.

Yikes, that sort of sucks. I have a lifting ring but no engine hoist, so moving motors up/down/on/off is hard for me right now. You got the lifting ring and hoist?

When I mount my motors, I set the JP and motor so that at max rise, the propshaft is 1" below the pad, and all the way down my propshaft is 5" below. Seems to be the best combo for the boats I've run.

I'm in the same situation, lifting ring no engine hoist. My neighbor had a engine hoist I borrowed a couple of times, but he moved, so I'm "sol" right now. My step dad has one but he's 45 mins from here.:(

Looking good!

Did you ever get a jackplate installed?

Thanks!!! I sure did. You can see the JP in post #12. Now the hard part is finding the sweet spot.

Guess I should look at the hole thing....

I would check your impeller or delivery tubes... you saw mine, it is all the way up on the
hole patterns and 85% of the way up on the manual adjustments. The only time I get warm is trimmed all the way out, and I am not running a modified lower unit.

I've got those merc scoops on my LU, so I'm thinking I got some grass caught btween the sccops and inlet holes. That might be why I was getting those crazy readings. If I remember correctly the psi gauge was reading 10 psi a little over half throttle. That's before i shot thru a flooded marsh field. I'm going out again this weekend to recheck those readings.

To confirm what I posted earlier. I took the scoops off and found grass stuck behind them and the inlet holes. That might explain why i was getting crazy readings on my psi gauge.

That's good news I guess. The directions with the scoops do say that they have that risk. Is your water too dirty to run them? I wonder what your pressure would do without the scoops at 2 1/2 below.

Jw occasionally the grass breaks loose from the banks and it can get really dirty/grassy around here. If you look at the gator on the river bank post you can see the grass i'm talking about. I going to run it this weekend without the scoops. I do remember after taking off from the landing i was getting about 10 psi on the gauge. So I'll see what happens this weekend.

We just got back from the river a couple hours ago. I'm getting the same reading on my psi guage w/o the scoops which is 5 psi @ half throttle and my temp reading is 160*. So I'm going to lower my motor down to see if I can get a different reading. I'm thinking of flushing the motor as well just in case i got grass or something else stuck in the cooling system. Other than that everything is in working order.

I had five people in the boat today, no trouble getting on plane. When i needed power the motor responded great. One thing i did notice was four people up front the rooster tail would get about even or just above the motor. I'm not sure what that means though.
