"Hey Experts" I am running a 115 Merc OB on a 80 Predictor. My question is should I leave the U shaped whale tale looking fins on the drive or would I benefit by changing to a flat stabilizer tail or what-ever-the-heck ya call the thing. My co worker, self proclaimed expert seem to think the flat fin would be better? BWB

The whale tale on the back. The best way to see if the flat one would work bette is to remove the one you have and run the boat. Note the differance in the way the boat come out of the hole. Also do some turn and see if you cavatate. If you cavatate in the corners the flat plate will not help much as it does not form a cup for the water.

BWB, The guy you bought the boat from thought it worked good. Why do you want to take it off? Does the boat pop up on plane fast? If so the do-fin is doing it's job.

I have owned several used boats and I use to try and change things right away. Run the boat for a while before you change things.
