I need to give a big thanks out to a forum member who noticed my water pressure hose was attached in the wrong place.:o I now have about 18 psi at wot and 5-8 psi at idle.:banana:The centerline of prop is 3" below the pad so it looks like i can go up on the jackplate now. Now that I've got the motor running smooth and got good water pressure the next quest is to get her dailed in.

where did you have your pressure guage hooked up? i had my 200merc in the water yesterday and my 15psi guage was reading 2lbs @idle and would max at wot. that idle reading seems high to me! but high is better then low! what size motor are you running? what size plate also? i can give you some details as to where i'm at with my 12inch plate!:bigthumb:

My Dumbazz had the hose in between the t-stats and was getting weird readings. I've got it corrected now. I have a 1999 200 hp EFI mercury w/a 6" jackplate on a Pulse 170. I'm spinning a 23 tempest plus prop. I think I need a 25P prop to try.
After thinking about it a bit more that 5-8 psi was half throttle not idle. My idle pressure was around 3-4 psi, my bad.
maybe i can't help after all-i'm running an '87 with a 12inch plate on a 21footer.......they will act WAY different in the water soory about that! thought you were running somthing a lil bigger:thumb: i would hate to race -i bet that thing screems!!!!! i will say that i will be posting some numbers later in the week with my prop shaft height at 2" and i you should check them out! it might be to some help for you even though your boat is a lil smaller and has a different hull:cheers

Not a problem Ross thanks for the help. I've yet to ride solo since I've got all the problems worked out. But with three people, full tank of gas, cooler and other stuff I've got plenty of power.

us poor rednecks have to go to the salvage yard and hope to find a good stolen gearcase, cause i go through 2 a year, along with motors. this summer, im making sure a crabpot or a fish dont tear a hose off. i just split a peice of 1 1/2 alum tubing, cut it to fit close as can from cone to pump hole, and filler with putty. im seeing 10 psi at idle, 30 @ 72k. within 10 seconds i burned motor 2 last summer when i hit a dolfin or porpoise in chinco inlet. came home 1 day with 3' of alligator gar stuck between the hose and case. haha, atleast im faster than a fish.
