I'm looking to build a relationship with a GOOD mechanic who's with in 100 miles or so of Detroit.One who is familiar with the 2.5 hipo mercs.I don't mind paying for Good,Confident,Timely Work.The only reason I'm looking is after 12yrs my guy retired and moved out of state 2 winters ago and I haven't found another.

At this time after 14 yrs my merc is not running right.Same ole' story as others. It starts Idles,revs good,but boggs down under any load.I've been looking for some to rebuild the carbs for a few yrs now. And I know I need the stator replaced and might as well replace the rectifier at that time too.

As of this spring my comp. # are 132-137 lbs I've installed a new fuel pump from Diamond marine,new battteries and (new radio).Thanks, JEFF

Until then If anyone has any Ideals to help I'm not above finding fixing myself.I just don't do carbs.

I can't help you Merc245 I live to far away and I had to cut my tree down to heat the house this winter.

Only guy that I can put you in contact with is on the "Scream N Fly" board and goes by the name "PYRO". Runs basically the same motor as you and is located in " Loch Erin, Irish Hills area, SE Michigan. I hope that helps.

That will be a challange. I have been looking for a good mechanic that is reasonably close myself. In this area if you take your boat in you wont see it for a month min. I could go on and on with my frustrations on dealing with marine service centers, but I will spare everyone. I wish you luck.

You can try Premier Motorsports over this side of the state on Gun Lake. There's a mechanic there that used to run his own shop, selling/rigging/wrenching Merc Racing motors on STV's. When he closed shop, he went to work for Premier. Not sure if he's still there, but they may know where to find him.
