View Full Version : TEMP GUAGE
ok- first off is the temp guage on my starfite a water or engine temp guage? second i tested the sender to ground and the guage does nothing..... bad guage? if so how do i know the sender is working? while on the lake at half throttle the guage shows med. temp as soon as i go full throttle it maxes and i have ran it this way long enough to toast this motor and nothing happens. this sender that i'm refering to is mounted on the passenger side of the motor on the head....... i need to know whether to order just the guage or the kit being a 20$ difference???????? thanks guys-ross

i would just order the whole kit if it is only 20 buck more that way you know when you replace it and have a piece of mind about it.
i just got done reading another thread about the same issues and also looking at my manual and i know that it is hooked up right...... i did test the guage and it would not read "hot" when i grounded the sender. not sure wether there is another issue w/ the motor after i read the other thread? anyone have an insite as to what might be going on w/ it before i burn 50$ on something that i don't need?

hey man. I just got a sportfire and I am experiencing the same thing. When I am mid to idle throttle my temp gauge is about 1/4 to 1/2. Once I raise the rpms the temp fluctuates between 7/8 and 3/4. Its like the opposite of cars and my dads I/O. The engine runes perfect( doesn't run like its hot). Let me know how you make out. I'd like to find a reason for this odd situation.

sounds like the temp guage is running off of the tach wire
wither the wires are crossed or shorted together
get you manual out the temp guage wire and the tach wire come from the control box and then go to the dash
the plug could be bad or the wires could be bad inside the box
if you can get long enough leads you can use an ohm meter to find which wire is which
should be purple - ign
green - temp
grey - tach
black - ground
tan with blue - alarm
just for ref the colors might be different on yours
also check and make sure you have a good ground at the box and at the dash
hope this helps daren

What are you getting for H2O pressure?
Do the heads feel scolding hot when you shut (after full throttle)the motor down and immediately run back?
This time of year the water temp.'s should keep your motor on the very cool side. If you have water pressure I would guess it is a gauge/sensor problem.
Hope that helps.
water pressure is fine and i can hold my hand over the pisser but not for long! i think the guage is just bad but havn't had time to play with it!
