How much water pressure should i be pushing at idle and at WOT on a yammie pro v 150?

i cant find the hole everyone has talked about to use a adapter for the pressure gauge and cant find it anywhere on the web. Anyone give me a hint:pissed:

As you look at the motor from behind on the top of the block on the RH side of the cylinder there should be a plug. That can be removed and a brass adaptor installed for your water pressure elbow.

theres a plug on each bank on the top, you sure its the right one?

I'm sure I'll get slapped silly for this ......but if yer pissin' outa both holes; whats the point of pressure; it's an open, water cooled system; water in, water out. I/O closed system, yes; O/B why? If the pump and impellar are working it'll piss like an 18yo; if one of 'em is bad it'll trickle like a 85yo w/ an enlarged prostate! That elbow is only checkin' pressure out! won't tell what part is broken. it's either 85 or 18.

:rof::lol:Thats funny never thought of it like that! But eveyone has told me to put one on if i am going to play with mounting holes. It is a strong stream even at idle and it will pierce a hole through steel at WOT. (maybe a little exaggeration but...) So you dont think i need one huh?

Use the port on the right bank, either will work but I'v allways seen them on the right.
I would install the gauge unless you like looking back at the engine when your going 60.

I don't look back; just ask one of my boys; " is it pissin?" "yeah dad, it's pissin!" gives em somethin to do when runnin wot:D.
Bottom line; it's your choice. Especially if your trying to surface mount your lower; Pressure gauge may give you some extra time before catastrophe particularly if your trying to protect a 75k racing o/b at wot. If it ain't coolin' it's gonna run hot; cylinder temp gauge is close enough for me; especially since all I'm doing is putzin around pullin kids and lookin good for my hottie. Your car dosn't have a water pressure gauge on it ....dose it? your dragster...maybe. Why have that kind of duplicity?....unless of course yor tryin to protect a 150k racing O/B(thought I'd jack the price up for kicks and giggles).
The dash on my enforcer had so many holes, it was ridiculous. I'm simplifing things this go around. If your surface mounting your lower; running wot; and like to go fast more than you cruise it may be a little extra insurance; not much, but a little. The older I get the more I like things simple:thumb:

thanks hickory i only have 3 holes in my dash there is fuel, speedo, rpm thats it i want temp and pressure and maybe a trim gauge but i dont know for sure yet.
i will say that it is very handy to have while you are at wot! i put one on my merc because of the jack plate and i'm running the mota high(2inch prop shaft height) you don't have to worry about the mota getting hot or running out of water!

PowerStroker, I've had pressure guages on both of my Mates but I still find myself looking back at the pisser. I do find the guage handy for telling the condition of the impeller, just take a mental note of idle pressure the next time you change the impeller. If it drops very much its time for a new impeller. I find it hard to take my eyes off the tach when running WOT but I still believe that a pressure guage is a useful insturment.

Water pressure and water temperature are the most important gauges an outboard can have!
It only takes seconds for a high performance engine to cook itself! If you know this is about
to happen, and can prevent it, you saved alot of cash!

reviving this thread because of something that happened over the weekend.
Put my Wareagle w/ 40hp merc on the water for the first time this summer so the boys and I could troll for striper. Heading out of the wake zone just a little over idle and looked back and no water was coming out of the outlets(pissers) on either side. I'm thinking "uh oh" decided to get her on plane and see if anything changes. Nothing, no water:brickwall:. So I tell the boys fishing trip is over we'll just have catch blue gill from the bank:mad: Temp alarm never went off and the engine stayed very cool. Got her on the trailer and decided I'd look at the outlets; looked clean.
I had her started only a few weeks earlier in front of my garage after getting her her out of "moth balls" for the winter. Had the muffs on and everything seemed to work great at the time.
monday, I put the muffs on and fired her up. I had water coming thru the prop and thru the hole under the cavitation plate just like I should; but no water from the outlets on the block. I called a local mercury dealer and talked to a service tech. He told me as long as my alarm didn't go off and I had water coming out the bottom like it should I still had water circulating. The outlets were probably plugged up with something. He told me they were there primarily used as a visual.
I went out and sure enough, they were. One side had mud and the other had something almost like glue/putty; it was real sticky. He told me to try and clear it w/ compressed air. I did and heh; she started making water.
Got her on the water today and no problems:banana:. Did notice several wasps flying around my lower. Thinking I may have had a small nest under the cavitation plate; Or I more likely I sucked some trash from the bottom around the ramp. I dunno:irked:
My Engine never ran hot; and it was till pumping and pushing water out(I didn't know it at the time). So, how would a pressure gauge have helped in this situation? Would it have shown any variation in pressure? I'm thinking it wouldn't have; but not sure. Thanks

The temperature gauge would have told you everything was normal and you could have
continued fishing!

Good point.....if my fishin rig was a little bigger and had gauges I'm like you; I would have kept fishin. Gauges might look kinda funny on a tiller, but it's at least worth looking into. I still don't think I'll be adding a pressure gauge to my check.

That " Tell-tale" or " Pisser" often gets plugged up our way when the lakes get weedy. But the engine still may be getting plenty of water and many smaller boats/engines don't have water pressure or temp gauges. A quick test to check while the engine is running is to see if you have a water vapor "spray " or droplets coming of of the exhaust relief holes. If you do...then you are getting the proper cooling.
After I show people this "test" then we then un-plug their tell-tale's. Usually it's just a bit of a weed or mud. A stick or piece of wire shoved up the outlet usually does it and the water comes flowing out.
