went out on the detroit river this weekend for the red bull air races and i quickly found out that a 18ft starfire dosen't belong out there. pretty rough. maybe its time to up size to a bigger boat........like spending time out on st. clair and such.

I'm a licensed pilot and I would LOVE to see the air races. I've heard rumor that next year may be Indianapolis and somewhere in the SouthEast.
I hope they come close to the South so I can justify the trip.
Post some pics if you took any...:bounce:

Spent alot of time on the Detroit river and lake St. Clair. My 21' enchanter was great until the boats came out on the week end and then it got hairy. The mouth of the detroit river gets really rough but not as bad as the mouth of the St. Clair river, but during the day the river from Belle Isle to Grosse Ille is great for cruising up and down. Watch out for shallow spots around Belle Isle. I've come to the conclusion after have someones wake role over my transome that a 24+ foot boat was better suited for Lake St. Clair. My dream was to get a 30+ foot and take from the Clinton river to my mom and dads up in Oscoda. Well a new house and daughter 9 years ago took care of that. However the daughters more fun. Anyways back to the Detroit River. I've taken a couple of moon light cruises before in the enchanter, really pretty but watch out for the drunk in the 42' Fountain doing 50mph...A$$ Hole.

I mainly boat in the ocean and it gets pretty rough at times. I feel you guys. My 21' rallysport is perfect though. It can handel any condition with no problems. It never nose dives, or gets swamped and the deep v is amazing. The boat feels like a small boat but rides like a big boat. If you guys are looking at getting a bigger boat but dont want to go w/ something too big....definitely look into superboat, challenger etc. You will love it.

Keep in mind we're not in the ocean up here in Michigan. The lakes are, especialy Lake St. Clair and portions of the Detroit River has an average depth of 5 feet and small breeze will get you up to 2-3' chop/waves and then multiply that with an outragious amount of boats in a confined area. Nothing like rollers on the open ocean. Trust me you'll need a kidney belt to keep those puppies attached.
