Hey guys, Ill start this by saying the gas tank from the boat has been sitting on the garage floor all winter and theres no signs of gas on the floor under it, but I am worried it might be leaking or something, the tank looks like its in decent shape but theres some corrosion on one corner and if you rub your finger over it, it smells like gas, but its not visibly wet or anything. Also its not soft to the touch or anything. Is this just some residue or is it possible its a real slow leak or anything? I dont think its leaking but i wanna make sure its not gonna wreck all my new wood and the old transom smelled like it had some gas in it (i assumed it was just from water around the engine with some gas in it being what leached into the transom from the outside)

also the bad looking corner is on the side the battery was on if that makes a difference.

Check out the pics and let me know what you think..... also any tips on cleaning this guy up a little before i throw it in? just a light sand?

Teamhart, my 1980 Enticer tank had the same issue. I cleaned it out with Simple-Green and then let it sit full of water on new cardboard. Within a day I found pin-hole sized leak in the welded seam. I took it to a Street Rod shop because I knew they welded aluminum and they told me that the weld did not fail and that the leak was caused by electrolysis. They asked me if the tank got wet or sat on wet carpet. Duh!!! They repaired it in 5 min's. and charged me $ 10.00 and told me to run a ground strap to one of the mounting screws when I reinstalled it. End of problem period. I did take a scotch-brite pad to it while out just for appearence sake.
