I know its rated at around 225 max, does anyone know if a 300hp promax can be put on a 21' 82' enchanter. I am going through 200hp powerheads like water, need something that can sustain 70+ over periods of time.

I would think it would handle the power with no problem. Being 21' foot helps. Just make sure the transom is up to the task. The weight difference between the 2 is about 150lb.

Those older Enchanters don't have the strongest transoms from the factory! Now that it's
16 or 17 years old, it's even weaker! You mite wanna beef it up with knee braces if it's
healthy enough to do so!

I would be afraid to put that much weight on my 87 Enchanter. I've never been impressed with the transoms on Checkmates. Seen lots of bad, However. a 225 Promax weighs less than a 200 and will live very well at 70 and push you to mid 70's with a 24" prop and if you can turn a 26 it'll get you close to 80. JMO.

If it's slow it must be an OMC.

I don't know much about enchanters transoms but my 89 spectra rated at 230 hp has a 300 johnson mounted to a land&sea jackplate motor weighs in about 530lbs since I've removed the power steering pump and rams.there are some stess cracks but only in the gel coat. just watch eveything carefully, also my boat has knees built into the transom not sure what enchanters have? also on the top bolts there is a 1/4" stainless steel backer plate on the inside of the transom in the motor well. good luck with it

I believe the coast guard allows any boat over 21' to have an "unlimited" hp rating. 21' Pulsare = 300 max, 21' starflite = 250 & 300 max. But an enchanter is only 20' so it is probably rated at whatever the biggest was back in the late 70's....230hp? It's all about the size of your nads, I have seen 16' boats with 300 hp so just be careful and of corse make sure the hull is in good shape.

Hopefully it should be ready for bigger power - when I rebuilt the boat, I made the transom a 1/2 inch thicker. Anybody know someone selling something more powerful than a 200 merc?
