Can you run thru hull under the water line( at rest)? Will this help the noise level?Do silencer tips work well or do they defeat the purpose of having them?

A lot of Mates like yours came with thru-hull 3"exhaust at the water line.It definetly makes a difference but your limited on space in that compartment,so its a tight fit.I had an 83 Exciter with it.If your running it at the water line you won't need silencers. The water acts like a baffle at slow speeds. Can't beat the way it SOUNDS!! http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Most compition ski boats exit below the water line, just be sure there are flappers to keep water out. I just pulled silencers off my boat, I thought it was too quiet for my taste. Silencers are pretty expensive too. Don't be confused between silencers and mufflers. Stay away from mufflers. If you want it quieter, go below the water line or put silencers on the transom.

Limited is an understatement!! I am concerned with laying out the exit points. Can only cut those big holes once!!

See where the water normally comes up to on the transom.I'd put them about half way into the water(If you want it muffled)Higher if you want to hear that thing growl http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif!Theres tons of those parts on ebay.Check em out http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif

I have noticed a few boats that actually had an elbow welded on the existing exhaust then turned it down towards the waterhttp://www.iboats.com/sites/thirdcoastyachts/site_page_263/images/l_outdrive1.jpg

First you'll have seal off the existing exhaust.I think that it you be hard to weld to the existing "Y" pipe if you cut it off ,because of the shape of it.I don't think it would line up with any elbows. It would be great if you could find another boat that has it so you could see what parts you need. Some 3"exhaust hose,a couple elbows and some tips would be a start.
