ON A BRAND NEW 300XS!!!

I love the sound and mid range of the 280 ROS, but I really need the low end grunt from the big block stroker (it seems as though I always have a boat-full and I hate putting the strain on the 2.5).

I may have completely lost it.....Boating has become my drug!

I went with the sport master gear case. I hear that the tmasters do real well on the 2100, but the nose cone is a must, and I don't want to go welding and epoxying on a brand new L/U.

I am going to use it a lot to get out of the break in period, and then I will start pushing the limits....High 80's would put a smile on my face for days:drool:

I have a sweet 2.5 280 for sale. I had it completely gone thru by the local Merc dealer in May and have only used it maybe a dozen times since. Compression is perfect and it should be right around the 100 hour mark.

Just figured I would share my excitement with you guys.

I must admit, you were right!

I know that they say the 300x had a little bit more up top than the 300xs, but do your wallet the favor and look for an xs. The fuel savings that I will get from this motor justifies the added expense. 40% more efficient than its predecessor, which is probably around 50%-60% better than the all out race 280!

I will let you know if the hype is true. Everyone I have spoken to swears that a tank of fuel lasts twice as long with these xs motors (including some very reputable guys on this site).

from what i hear the xs is only better on fuel at cruisning speeds and at wot they use about the same amount. i want a xs, but i am the guy that is either in a no wake zone or running wot..... if you know what i mean. i should be able to find a nice used early 300x for about 6k less than a new xs. i dunno what will happen.

If you plan on running much above 80 with a stock case be careful of it as that seems to be the magic number for blowout. I know a couple of people will comment about running over that without any problems and i have done it myself more than once, but just be on the watchout. Oh yeah and have fun with your new stroker..

:cheers Congrats! You've definitly joined the big leagues jumping to the 300xs. It should be interesting to see what kind of top end numbers you can do! You'll have to throw the center windshield in, install a snap on bow cover, and let her rip!!! There have been quite a few people that have installed the 300x/300xs on the 21' Pulsare, but I've still yet to hear real GPS numbers and the handling characteristics over 85 mph???

The sportmaster L/U comes with a cast nose cone (same look as my 280 L/U) so blowout shouldn't be an issue. The sportmaster that I have now was a dream at 82MPH GPS.

Here is a look at the Sportmaster:
