michigan vortex 3 blade aluminum props

hey all----just pokin around for some input or feedback on a problem i have with these vortex props----although they are cheap money and have performed very well on my 18 ft diplomat i/o, they always seem to walk off the nose cone---that pressed ring at the rear of the prop----the last 21 pitch prop i used actually flung the damn thing off somehwere in the river----i needed a 23 pitch anyhow as ive swapped in a 4.3l v6 in place of the old 3.7l 4 cylinder and the 21 pitch wasnt enough prop for the torque curve---i found a brand new 23 p vortex on ebay in the box----took it out first time today and it was perfect for what im running but after pulling out i noticed the nosecone piece is just beginning to walk out a little already!!!! anyone else have this problem if running these props?? any remedies??? now that i knmow the 23 pitch is the sweet spot i will be prowling around for a nice 3 blade s/s prop for the boat but would still like any advice on that nosecone retention problem LOL----thanks everybody

Do yourself a favor and buy a SS prop.

Sounds like you need a stronger prop. AND, make sure your propshaft isn't bent a little.

I also think you should check your p/s and get a ss prop.

I dont think that a nose cone is going to help you in any way on your boat.

you guys arent following what im saying----its not an aftermarket nosecone or anything----simply the pressed ring at the end of the prop---pressed there at the factory when made and then painted--already have a 23 pitch s/s prop on the way as well---was only curious if anyone else had this problem with these vortex props---other than the ring walking off of them they work quite well for a low price aluminum---sorry for all the confusion :confused:

If you want aluminum, go with the Turning Point Hustler. It will blow the Vortex away. I ran a 23" Vortex on my 225, and 46 mph was all it would run. You could not use the trim at all with out it blowing out. Took it off and put the Hustler on, ran 68.7mph on gps at 5800 rpm's and I could not make it break loose. If you do the math, that is about 6% slip! boatman

hey thanx for the advice boatman!! ive heard those turning point props are nice---yeah only got the boat last summer so still trying things out---i did notice the vortex props do blow out sometimes when trimmed way out on WOT but they have worked nicely for tubing the kids and just cruising---any experience with solas props?? i have a 23 pitch stainless on the way from PA that i got on ebay---looked cherry---guy said he only used it once so i guess we will see--
