I just bought a 1982 Checkmate with an I/O. Of all the pictures of models they all show outboard models. The boat is titled as a 19 foot and originally had a 260 h.p. V-8 in it, and the guy I bought it from said it would do 70 mph on the water. By the way I bought the boat from the original owner from WI.
As anyone got any information on this model. I am re-powering the boat with a smaller engine, (I know I am going to get a lot for grief on this here, but I am on a budget, plus I already have the entire running gear from another boat).
I am excited about putting this boat back in the water, maybe in a week or 2.
Thanks for any help.
The boat is a walk thru with 2 jump seats in the front, bucket seats and a full width bench seat across rear, the engine cover is perfect and complete except for a couple of the buttons on the upholstery.

I have an '82 Eluder, also.
Mine came with the 470 (3.7L 4cyl)
It's fast enough (about 50mph) and I can run all day long and still have gas left over. A good boat that handles like a dream.

sounds like fun. use the search button to figure out what things to check along the way and how to fix the things you find or solve problems you run across. Lots of great info burried in the posts on here.
