I have a 1988 Yamaha 130. When it is at idle, and I rev it, the engine bogs down and kills. But if I push the choke 1 time just before I rev it, the engine revs fine. This problem occurs when the boat is stationary and while attempting to get on plane. Any ideas of what it could be?
Thanks!:brickwall:

Well, choking causes the engine to draw in extra fuel. Therefore you could assume that it is a bit lean during acceleration. Yamaha's have very small carb passages that can clog easily if there is junk in the gas. Were the carbs drained over winter? Was the fuel stabilized? Gas can turn to gel if not. Try a shock treatment with Sea Foam first. If that doesn't get it, tear down the carbs and soak in carb cleaner (or Sea Foam), blow everything out with compressed air. Should cure it.

Thanks. Yea, thats what I thought it was going to be. I tried the shock treatment with seafoam last week, and no difference. Next I will try to tear down the carbs. Do you know a good site to buy carb kits?

Chances are there will be nothing wrong with the carb that you need a rebuild kit. They never really wear out. this is not a Merc we are taking about. It is probably just crude. If you want to do it since you have it apart anyway, Boats.net will be the cheapest online.

make sure its not just something in ur gas tank clogging the line, I had the same thing for a while, pulled the tank, and a cleaned it out, all kinds of debris that was getting caught in the strainer when it was sucking hard on take off.
