Sorry if I put this in the wrong dept. I have a 1987 convincor w/454 alpha drive, my question is this........ Would it be worth putting a bravo outdrive on it, ( I know it around 5-7 k) and rebuild the motor or just get rid of it all together. Its just a little to slow for my blood if you know what I meen, but I really do like the boat. It is in really good shape too.

I always go with sell and buy rather than major overhaul.

It all depends on how much money you are willing to spend and how fast you really want to go.

How fast do you want to go ?
How much do want to spend on another boat?

Put it up for sale and get what you really want. Less BS.

I'd say since your check is still in good running condition, sell it. If it aint broke, don't fix it. Use that money to get what you're looking for. No reason to tear out functional hardware when there are other options.

My 2cents worth. To buy what you really want will more than likely take alot of cash. A dealer can put together a new boat, "exactly what you want"...but you'll pay for it until it hurts. Finding a used boat that is "exactly what you want" will be a little more difficult and will require having patience; and in the end you'll probably not be completely satisfied and still want to make changes. You'll probably inherit someone elses problem to boot.

If all you want is more speed from this boat, and really like the way it looks; start modifying what you have. Your boat looks great and your power appears to be stock. There is alot of potential with what you already own. Headers; forced induction; reprop and the list goes on as to what can be done to make your check fly:D If you do some or all the work yourself you'll have the satisfaction knowing that YOU did it and no one else. Bragging rights hold a little more weight as opposed to to telling everyone that you had it done by some "Joe blow" speed shop.:thumb:

Post the specs of your power plant; drive and prop in the forum "Powerplant Technical Discussions"; sub-forum "engine technical discussion" and you'll get more opinions than a$$holes on how to make a screamin' mota:banana:

Again, you have a great lookin check with alot of potential; I wouldn't throw the baby out w/ the bath water just yet. That I know will cost way more than I would want to spend.

I say take the 454 to about 525 cubes & install a blower. Then get a daytona crashbox (transmission), a #3 speedmaster drive & a 12'' stand off box. Set the drive height real high & let her eat. TAKE THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED! Then sell all the extra parts from the old set up
