Hi there, as the boating season unfortunately is coming to an end for some of us which means taking the boat out of the water or just simply preparing it for a 6 month Nap, I was wondering what products are available to clean the Hull.

I've heard things such as Lime cleaners to Toilet Bowl cleaners, does anyone have any suggestions that they have had good results with on the "Mates".

Thanks in Advance

Bruce

I use slimy grimy on my boat and it does the trick... However it is a corrosive and is probably not the best thing for trailer paint? It leaves streak marks on my trailer when not thoroughly rinsed...

It all depends on how grimey your hull is. Mine is kept on a shore station, so it doesn't get stained and really grossed out, but it does get a healthy dose of hard water stains. For those, I take a bottle of CLR or Lime Away and cut it 50% with filtered water, and spray that on the hull. I quickly wipe it off, then wash the boat with a good hull wash after the hard water stains have been removed by the Lime Away. After the wash, then I use Star Bright Polish with Teflon and UV protectant, or the 3M Marine polish to protect the finish.
For really bad hulls (those kept in the water all summer) most boat dealers have an acid wash that does a good job of removing the scum. I do not know what they use................

I use Starbright as well.

They sell it at the little marina at my cottage and it works great.

Just be careful with the high power acid washes... dont get carried away, on my other boat... not the old checkmate I had my decals change color where it was sprayed... I havent touched a new 'mate like ever so I am not sure what sort of decals and designs are left out of the gelcoat...
