bdusted440 I use to work on the drives, they can handle about 400-500hp but no more. But they are very durable. Mike at Riverview can help you more on this his number is (518-943-5342).

No doubt it will hold it, J.B runs a 350 chevy 300hp in his mate and has NO problems.

Can you run thru hull or silent choice with this drive? I know you can on the new stuff but was wondering if you can on the old omc drive's.
Is there anyplace I can get a service manual for the stringer drive? Thanks guy's

bdusted440, You can run thru hull with no problem, if J.B would write he could tell you, all about his setup, he runs an omc drive with thru hull. Call Mike at Riverview he can get you anything you need for these drives, the number is listed above. Good luck with her.

bdusted440, now that I am thinking of it I am not sure if you can do thru hull. Talk to mike, sorry on the unsure info, just don't want to give you the wrong info.

bdusted440 if you not wanting to say all orginal, I would also get rid of the stringer mount, and put a newer merc drive on. I didn't relize that you were talking about a stringer until you said something, they are not very good drives, lots of problems. The omc cobras are good drive, thats what I thought that you had, big difference! Take it out if you can, merc has drives and motor ready to go in packages, thats what I would do.

http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/jpshakehead.gif Ya it say's hi-perf stringer right on it but from the numbers it is a 800 series drive.Pre cobra. It works perfect so I hope it will last until I find a donor boat with a bravo drive.Once I have the cash and opertunity at the same time it's gone. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gifWe have a 8.0 at work I can buy for the core price of $250.It ran good but had the normal piston slap I think it would fit fine in the old girl.what ya think guy's .Good next winter project. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/devil.gif

BDUSTED, The Boats cleaning up nice. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gifI'm not sure about your budget but I'd think you could dig up a decent 350 V8 Merc with an 1:50 ratio alpha drive pretty reasonable. You don't find to many cheap Bravos. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/jpshakehead.gifI've had a few of them and driven them hard and they've NEVER let me down.By the way, I've got a couple Mopars myself.GOTA LOVE EM http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

bdusted the thing thats going to hold you back is the clutches in the drive, I still can't beleive that they would put a ("STRINGER") http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/sick.gif in a mate. Anyways good luck with her.

Ive got a reciet with the boat for the out drive being rebuilt in spring 02.The motor reciet has the same date on it. So I hope it lasts this season at least. But when I found the drive bolts loose I notice the two ball gears are worn badly and will need replacing this spring.I think i'll do that and save the money and round up the parts for next winter.I'm just going to get the hull in good shape for now and enjoy it for this season.Dont get me wrong i'll play with it and see what it will do and change the exhaust but I'm not going to replace the drive set up till next winter. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
