i posted before and i am wondering if i can sand the top of the boat to reclear it. it has the metalflake and its down to that. would i ruin the flakes by sanding ir should i just clean it good and clear it. the bottom and sides are still perfect but the top is burnt off completely. near the rails is where it stopped and its flakey there. what should i do? thx in advance, bill

If its that bad you'll have to wet sand it to get rid of the damaged gel coat anyway.Usually the gel coat is fairly thick on Mates,so you should be alright.On the really rough areas I'd start with a 400 grit,then on up to 600.Clear it and wet sand it with 1000-1500 grit.Buff it out with the proper compounds and it will look like a million bucks.You also should check with you'll local body shops and get they're advice about it too.They do it for a living and have much more experience with it than I do.Good Luck!
