Board Closing

I wanted to let everyone know this website and message board will close permanently at the end of August. It's been a great run and I've had fun. It's been a pleasure meeting and hanging out here with all the great Checkmate fans.

I want to publicly thank JW and Gus for their efforts in making this a fun place, I'm sure I'll see you fellas over at Scream and Fly.

Just basically tired baked. It's been costing more and more each month as the site has become busier and busier. And for a number of reasons the fun factor for me has been steadily declining.

And no one will be taking over bro, sorry.

It sure will take me by surprise. This is the site I always went to, always check, its like 90% of my computer usage!

Z, I really wanted to just close the board effective immediately and post a notice stating so. I didn't because I wanted to give everyone the opportunity to exchange email addresses etc.

Fellas, I just got confirmation back from Infopop (our webhost) and I have to give them 30 days notice before closing our account. That would take us to September 20th, so we'll probably continue to either the 20th of September, perhaps maybe even the 30th, as I'll probably have to pay for all of September anyway. When I get the final date I'll post it.

Thanks bd and Erik. I'll be hanging out over at Scream, so I'm sure a bunch of us can hook up over there. And, it looks like we have about a month more to go anyway.

I don't find scream and fly nearly as good as over hear. This is a more "personal" forum where more times, questions are answered, from guys that know Checkmates. Over at scream and fly, its too crowded and its not only on Checkmates...

Hey Chris,

You've done a fabulous job with the board and made it a mandatory visit every day. Top grade in every way! That makes it even harder to say good-bye. Since becoming an ex-owner, I loved to pop in, get caught up with everything Checkmate, and forget that I was an "ex"-owner.

But, as someone with a busy work life and home life, I can understand the drain on your time.

Thanks for providing the forum to share info, pics, tips, yuks, guy stuff, and some sad stuff along the way.

Now, although we're only "virtual" friends, I can't help but think you'll have trouble staying away from this ...

P.S. I've still got that 26P Laser II, and I'm only out in Whitby!

I too am sorry to hear of the closing. Although I don't post too much and never really got involved in any personnal things on this board, I have enjoyed the technical question and answer forum. I hope that I have helped a few guys here. I know that I got some help along the way.

I can say the board is not going to close any time soon.

I want to thank all of the great members that emailed me telling me how much they enjoy the board and asking if there was some way, any way, for them to help keep the board open. I appreciate your kind words and offers of money and various forms of help. You made me realize that perhaps I had been a bit rash, by allowing a few members to frustrate me and close the board.

To be honest I was a little overwhelmed with the number of emails I received, and I realized just how much the board means to many of you.

From now on though, I'm going to speak my mind a little more. I'm not going to have people bashing my moderators, myself, or this board. And attempts to disguise bashing as constructive criticism or the like isn't going to be tolerated.

So on the note....closing this out. :thumb:
