my 283 is docked much of the time , so sooty transom / waterline crud is an annoying concern . without a doubt , the best / fastest product i have found to combat this is made by spray nine , called"boat bottom cleaner". its a jelly and sooo easy to use . they also make another product called "grez off" which i WILL try . its supposed to be available through most marine dealers , but can be ordered on line from www.boatfix.com (http://www.boatfix.com) --- or boat us . i kinda envy you guys trailering , and always having a flawless ride , on the other hand , being docked lets us come up and really use that checkmate .RISENSHINE !!!!!

Bob... I use this stuff call "DUCKY" which has been around since the start of jet-skis. Just spray it on, wait a few minutes and rinse it off..NO Scrubbing!!! Takes exhaust soot right off and no harm to gelcoat, stripes, or vinyl graphics. I've had a few bottles around for a while, but I'm sure it's still available. Jim

If your getting exhaust soot on your transom, you could be running too rich...

unfortunately i think the thought is to run them a little rich , and reduce the possibility of burnt valves / melted pistons .i'd rather complain about my transom than keep replacing motors . RISENSHINE !!

Bob,
I am with you. It is always better to be rich. I have said this here before, if you want to keep the soot off the transom, get an MSD-6M. It works well.
