have any of the hard core guys tried anything like insulating / cooling fuel lines or ramming more cool air into the engine compartment ,or any other tricks ? RISENSHINE !!!!!

I remember they used to wrap the fuel line around a canister and fill the canister with ice cool fuel and cool air have always been good on performance, if you hever have a chance try a harley on a very cool day compaire to a hot one you will notice a big diference on power cheers http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/bounce.gif

i hate warm beer....i think the older donzis used to come w/insulated fuel lines and the thoroubreads had a ram air setup incorperated into the engine hatch .my carbed hp 500 would fall on its face when hot and humid . makes ya wonder if there is a little something that can be done to compensate .

Fresh air is allways good for performance, I like a nice big hood scoop in place of a sun pad myself. To hear that four barrel sucking is music to my ears.
If you have gone so far as to add a blower or turbo, after coolers are essential for peak performance. The dencer the air charge the better.

I would not bother with attempting to ICE down the fuel. The difference you would get would not be noticable. Maybe a couple of h.p. on a dyno. Not enough to warrant the work envolved. To say nothing of what the Coast Guard would think of your fuel system having hose clamps and a bucket of ice!!
The performance gain would be to get a scoop to direct cool air into the intake. While this would work great for a carb., I have no idea of how a stock Merc. injection system would handle the extra air flow. My guess would be-- not so good---For EFI motors, the most I can see doing is to attempt to direct some fresh air into the engine compartment, but not directly into the intake.

yeah , i knew the ice would be overkill , but getting more cool air back there is good idea .

Something I was wondering. With the new EFI engines in boats has the aftermarket stepped up and made a chip or computer to bump the HP.

175Checkmate,

No.... No aftermarket company has been able to sell a modified ECU. Merc. ECU's have no provision for changing chips. The program is burned into the memory. I think you would have better luck finding the Holy Grail than finding a chip for a Merc ECU.
However, there are a few companies that will re-map your ECU.. The problem I see with it is that you are trusting your entire engine on someone you most likely will never even meet. Who will take responsibilty if the motor melts a piston? I am sure you would have to eat the motor yourself. As far as i am concerned, the only way to re-map an ECU is at a shop that can do it while the motor is on a dyno. Monitoring the exhaust gas temperatures is the best way to get the fuel curve correct.
