hi guys,im restoring an old checkmate that was race prepared from the factory. fyi, ive got an original merc 150 xs going on it. we are finishing it in gelcoat just like the factory. so i am wanting everything factory original. i am looking for the checkmate decals that went on the sides just ahead of the transom. i need two of them. they say checkmate in black and white . the name is seperated by the knight symbol in the center and it is printed on clear plastic. i can email pictures to anyone who can point me in the right direction. im new to the site and have a good bit of old merc outboard parts if any one needs something. speedmasters, offshore exhausts, etc. regards, scott

Welcome to the board boatnut. You could try the factory. I seriously doubt they have any around, but maybe Mike Combs can steer you to someone who could replicate them for your restoration.

Welcome to the board and good luck on decal hunt.
Nice to hear about another lod mate being saved.
Try any local sign company. Most of them do custom lettering. If you have a picture, with today’s software they can recreate just about anything.

hi duane, they are possibly screen printed on clear plastic decal material. the material is about 3/8" larger in border than the black and white lettering. it is thin like vinyl but clear. thanks for all the replys so quickly . regards, scott

Keep posting and it will soon disappear. I think it's meant to embarass us into spending lots of time writing out here, LOL, but there are so many knowledgeable folks out here with great info that a "Wannabe" just wants to listen and not talk at first.

Ther's a company online that sells supplies for making custom decals. You can print images on to clear sheets. If anyone is interested I can try to dig up the link.
