View Full Version : 2.5 Merc resleeve

In the midst of my engine rebuild, it was discovered that two of the cylinder sleeves are cracked and the motor has already been bored .30 over. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/jpshakehead.gifThe tech tells me that resleeving these engines is unreliable and that a reman powerhead is 4800 dollars. Thank him for his time and get that motor away from him. He obviously doesn't know how to properly re-sleeve and re-build a 2.5. Get on www.screamandfly.com (http://www.screamandfly.com) and ask around. JSRE is one person that can fix it right for you, there are many others. I've never had to rebuild a motor, but the hot outboards guys over on Scream and Fly re-sleeve motors all the time and run the piss out of them.

I agree!! Our mechanic is on the CHAMP boat tunnel boat tour and runs a 2.5 SST/120 he also has resleeved his race engines and like JW said beat the piss out of it.... Run Far Far away!! http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/Eyecrazy.gif
