We have a 97 with a 2000 225 ProMax for 18k.
Ok... So you want a used one.. I'll keep an eye out for ya as I am in Ontario too. This is, if I don't buy one first!!!

I think I saw the Pulsare on the internet that RPH has, if it is the same one, it is a great looking boat. Is it white with blue graphics? if so, where is the gear case. This could be a boat for 440 also. 440. this is not too far from you either.
sorry, I meant RPM, i can't type today, or any day for that matter. It is still a great looking boat!

I know where someone can buy not one but two Pulsares on Ontario. It could be private or dealer sale...hey if the price is right I might even sell mine...not a chance!! I am waitng for some details regarding these two boats and may even post the info soon.
Z, I am holding out on posting this information for your benefit! I am hoping that you nevermind the Impala SS and convince yourself that a Checkmate is a far better investment. I am sure that with spring in the near future, our fellow members will be asking about these two Pulsares.
Oh ya! I also know of an 18ft Pulse that is for sale.
No I am not a dealer! http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/lol.gif

Here is the deal. Once, I am pissed, I am pissed bad. Its nothing with Americans, he is just telling people not to give me info when he is far away from where the are. I like all of you, but some just piss me off. I do not flip out like some, I just get real mad but I don't take it out on others, just the 1 then I calm down... Come on everyone let's all get along! Seriously! http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/jpshakehead.gif
Having looked for a Pulsare in Ontario for such a long time, I know how difficult it is to find one. They are extremely rare...as a matter of fact Checkmates are extremely rare in Ontario as far as I am concerned.
I was lucky enough to find mine last spring at Rideau Ferry Marine. Although I wanted a 2100BR with a 225HP, I "settled" for a 1995 2100 closed bow with a 2.5 litre XRi 200HP EFI V6. I got a wicked deal and will be able to use it for 2 to 3 years without loosing a cent, just like I did with my Sportfire!
Z, I would love to see you buy a boat (we could for for a cruise sometime). Z and all other fellow members here is the deal.
My friends at Rick's Marine in Perth have informed me of their inventory of Checkmates:
1. Brand New 2100 Pulsare Closed Deck, white w.blk/red, motor is up to you!
2. 1997 2100 Pulsare Closed Deck, black w.red/wht, 225ProMax, trailer incl.
3. 1993 Pulse 183, colour?, 135hp Merc, trailer?
4. 1996 Convincor 254, white w.teal, 454, trailer optional.
I was waiting for more information on these boats and pictures from Rick's Marine to post on our site because I like to provide the whole story. If anyone goes to visit Rick's Marine, mention Steve with the 1995 Pulsare sent you. They are fantastik to deal with from my experiences. Sorry, it will have to be the information only for now! When I get the pictures I will post them with extra details.
I hope this information helps someone find their dream boat. I know how hard it is to find Checkmates up here in Ontario...EH!!! http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/lol.gif
P.S. Please be nice to eachother http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif, and if anyone is going to be a jerk with my friends at Rick's Marine...do not mention my name http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/sssh.gif!

Judging by the info, those are all closed decks. After owning both, it's REALLY hard to give up that bow room with an open bow. ESPECIALLY when towing. Helps launch the boat when pulling when you have a couple people up front............

I could not agree more. I wish mine was a 2100BR. On a positive note, the windscreen on the closed bow looks way better...don't you agree?

I like the way the closed deck looks, but the BR is better for a family and skiing to get on plane if you need to quick. Kids have to go up there sometimes... LOL

No doubt on the looks! In fact, I almost bought a closed deck. My plan was to take a sawz-all to the deck and make a bow-rider out of it. There wouldn't be any pass-through, but the windscreen and dash would be intact. I'll bet it would have killed the resale value though.
I decided to go open bow for sure when I saw one from side view from shore. You can't tell whether it's an open or long deck when the center glass is in place.

Z is 100% right, they are at the boat show this weekend. I did not go to it because they were not bringing any Checkmates. They brought only their "bread and butter boats"...you know, the affordable ones. I have a backdoor phone number if required, but try them this week. Ask for Jay, Dave or Terry. Good luck, happy shopping and I hope you find your boat. I wish this site had existed last year...JW your boat would be at my house bye now.

I know it's kinda far, but I think I have what you are looking for. I have a 21' pulsar, 1999. 225hp mercury. custom trailor, full and partial cover, other extras. Absolutely beautiful. Used under 30 hours (I have 2 kids under 3). Great condition. It looks very similar to JW's boat. It is white with red and black striping and is red glitter in the black stripes. The only problem is that we live in wisconsin, near green bay. price is $24,000, but we must sell.

I called Rick's Marine today, they want $37,000.00 CDN ($25,000.00 USD) for the 1997 Pulsare and $49,000.00 CDN ($33,000.00 USD) for the 1996 Convincor. That's insane, and you guys think Pride of Muskoka is expensive. If anyone wants to pay that much, be my guest and go ahead.

Tammy 25, your boat does sound like what I'm looking for, but you are right to far for me, I know Chicago is about 9 hours from here, so you are probably around 12 hours, only guessing.
Thanks anyways!
You should see if JW wants it, he could have two, I know he likes the the red and black stripes.
37 thousand for a 1997? Sorry XSV, but this dealer seems to be over pricing a bit. What are the conditions of the boat to make it this expensive? You can get a new one for around 40!!!!

They did say it wasn't used much and it was like new, but $37K, come on its 6 years old! Good luck selling it!
2003 Pulsare bowrider red with black and white stripes and white interior with black and red stripes and red carpet. Full sunbrella cover, full guages, CMC hydraulic jack plate, matching red C-Hawk single axle drive on trailer. 2003 Mercury 200 HP Carb motor. As close to new as you can get. $25000. I sold my STV last summer and i really regreted selling it so I ordered the Checkmate. My friend never used the STV and i just bought it back.

Hey guys. Just a question. How would you convert JW's $15,500 boat into Canadian funds? I suspect when calculated, you will find that it is between $22,000 and $23,000 CDN! Then add sales tax. It is a 1995. I agree that $37,000 for the 1997 Pulsare at Rick's is a little high but I have seen it live...it is mint. Do you guys seriously think you can buy a brand new Pulsare in Ontario for $40k? Give your heads a shake! Seriously! Even Bayview Rick's Milwaukee Boat Show Pulsare had a ticket price of $35K US if I recall. Do the math on that in Canadian funds. I will run you $50K CDN plus 15% dealer tax for an approximate $57K CDN. I have mentioned before on the forum that a Pulsare would run between $55 to $60K in Canada. If anyone thinks I am out to lunch, price check a new one in Ontario and post the info.

No one's talking about a new one, this is a 6 year old boat, I don't care how mint it is!!!
It's not worth $37k, there's one in Wisconsin, its a 1997 bowrider with a 2000 225 Promax for $18,900 US, what's that around $28,000-29,000 CDN, that's $8,000-$9,000 less with a 5 newer motor. I'm not disagreeing on the price of a new one, I can't afford a new one, that's why I want a used one. I'd buy JW's anyday, I know it's mint and he takes great care it. No way a 2 year newer one is worth $14K more.

I think that these boats altogether are way overpriced. Close to 50K is a little much for a 21' boat that can only go in the 70's with the 225. I know the motor is close to 15-20K, but the hull sure as hell not worth 30K! I could believe you XSV, not too many Pulsares out there,, but when you finda good one, its got to be mint. I am still going to take a drive sometime, but I have been busy lately.

My rig is: 2000 closed deck Pulsare with 2000 300 Merc Promax, 2000 C-hawk tandem trailer. Some of the extras are: Hydraulic jackplate, Hydraulic steering, Offshore trim, some Gaffrig gauges. I bought it new in April of 2000 for $22,000 U.S. (not including tax.) This was the best package price I could get anywhere in the Midwest. Premier could not even beat that price. The first motor I put on it was a brand new 2000 225 Promax. Found it for $11,500 U.S. So, total package price was $33,500 plus 6% Iowa sales tax = $35,510. Late in 2001, I upgraded to the 300 Promax. So now I have about $38,510 stuck in it. If I would not have rigged it myself, you could probably add another $500-1000 on to that.
Moral of the story: These are not cheap boats once you have it totally rigged. Granted, I went with the best of everything. (The damn trailer was $4500). Even if you go with a 225 EFI, a cheapo trailer, no extras, you're still going to pay around $28,000 for a complete Pulsare rig here in the States. I'm sure more than that now, It's been 3 years since I bought mine, I assume prices rose since then. So, if was to sell it right now, I would have to get at least an offer of $35,000 to even consider. And that's for a 3 year old boat. Crazy!
Have you met up with Chris T. and gone boating? I remember you knew who he was and has similar boats. Your is obviously faster. I'd love to see it man!!!!

No I haven't been boating yet. I was out this time last year for a run. We're suppose to get 5-8" snow tonight here in Iowa.
No, I have not been in contact with Chris T. We chatted a couple years ago about our Pulsares. Last I talked to him, he was working on a Hydrostream. Did he keep his Pulsare?
I currently do not have any digital pictures of my boat. I'll take some when I get it out for the spring...might be a while with the way this winter is going.

Malibu, I agree the 1997 is priced too high. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif I am not justifying the price but I beleive the engine's foot is not the standard one that comes with a ProMax and it has a beautiful custom trailer. They would have better luck selling in the 30-32K range.
I will keep my eyes out for you. It is not going to be easy to find a Pulsare in Ontario.

Craig, Chris now has a 87 Venus XT with the 225 ProMax. He now runs 95.3 MPH with the 30' ET. He is now looking for a 32 to go faster. He sold the Pulsare to some guy down in the US. He was told a few months ago that the driver blew the OptiMax. No reason why but its strange as the motor was a 99.
Bill, 50K for a 21' Pulsare? I will never pay that much for a new one, thats why I want a good used one. Anyways, all you Ontarians, lets keep our eyes out for some good deals and see who gets them 1st!!!

Why is it strange to blow up a 99 motor, all you have to be is careless and stupid, and there are plenty of us like that out there. From comments you have made before Z on prices of boats, I must say you are a little naive. I don't know the conversion rate, but here in the US, you can get a loaded Pulsare, trailer, and at least a 225 efi for the low 30's. That is a damn good price for what you get. Yes, JW's is a pretty godd price, but the boat and motor is also 8.5 years old and that boat sold new for about 22 grand. That sais alot for the resale value

Bill, the conversion rate is around 1.50, so $30,000 US is $45,000 CAN. I've heard the price is more like $50,000 to $55,000 up here.

I guess that is high, but is that what he actually sells the boat for or are you just calling and asking how much. Down here in the states, there is normally a big difference between asking and selling price. Much more of a difference than cars.
I usually don't make too many comments on prices, face it, but for 50K, I could get this Pulsare, and that would be about it. What is so special about it? The 99 OptiMax was in great condition after he sold it but I guess you said it, carelessness and stupidity. Myself and him are looking up some info to help the guy and can't seem to find much. Still, I will not be buying a new Pulsare. My friend got his for 35 in 1998-99 I think. My 2 cents. I am going used as I am not paying that much for a boat as itself...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but converting U.S. dollars to Canadian dollars doesn't really give an accurate sense of how expensive something is in Canada. You have to look at the Canadian economy, cost of living, supply and demand for the product in question.
Just because something is a "good deal" at $35,000 in the U.S. and converts to $50,000 Canadian, doesn't mean it's a "good deal" in Canada.
I've bought a few things form people who live in Canada, and am surprized at how inexpensive they are once it's converted over to U.S. dollars. Now this may be a differnt story when looking at other products. I would assume that a snowmobile would cost me more in Canada. Down here in Iowa they can't give them away (well, that may be an exaggeration, but they're cheap right now). The demand is not there, for various reasons.
My understanding is the value of the Canadian dollar is currently not doing well in terms of U.S. dollar comparison.
My opinion,
Craig
In my honest opinion, I will be sticking to a used Checkmate now. I have been debating over and over again about gettting a brand new Pulsare. I really don't have 50K to spend at my own free will. I totally agree with Craig...

Craig, you hit the nail right on the head...supply and demand. Here in Ontario, Checkmates are rare, so if you have one and know someone who has been looking for one...you get your price.
Converting US to CDN funds through direct conversion (i.e. 1.45 or whatever)can only really be used if you actually purchase from the US and register the boat in Canada, just like anything else. You are right, it does not work accurately for everthing but it is a good rule of thumb.
I have also heard of many Americans purchasing trucks from Canada because it is alot cheaper...specificaly used trucks through an auction.

Best price on a Pulsare bow-rider with 3.0 225 EFI and single axle trailer: Last year, before I found my '95 Pulsare, I priced out a new one. It's the red one in my Checkmate article on Scream and fly. Basic Pulsare BR, no extras, came to $30,000 USD plus tax. That was after beating up the salesman for 3 months. Basic package, no extras.

Z, you did not answer my question. Is that list price or what the boat is actually selling for. If you pay list price, you are a fool. The list price and selling price is around 13,000 U.S. dollars on my 240. Understand my point???

Peterborough...Buckhorn Lake...HHMMMM???
If I recall that is near Picton/Belleville is it not?
Perhaps our two 1995 Pulsares may cross paths this summer! We could go for a torque! I am always in Picton on most weekends. If you have a chance look at a map for Waupoos Island in the Bay of Quinte. That is were I spend my boating season. I will look up Buckhorn Lake as well.
Take care and enjoy your new boat!

Ok... Let me put this plain and simple, Zeus, what the hell is up with you. If I'm that much of a problem, hire a f**king hitman and get me killed if it will make you happy. If I recall, this message board is to talk about Checkmates and how great they are, not to bash each other. I am just wondering, what do you do for a living, how old are you, what boat do you have, what Checkmates have you owned, what Checkmates have you driven. Answer all of these because I can bet I am not the only one who is suspicious about you. Anyways, Malibu, I am serious, if you ever decide to sell it, which I doubt you will, I will be right up there because at this time, it wasn't the right time with the $ for me. Congrats...

Question for Bill. Upon glancing at the photo's of Malibu's Pulsare (JW's)I noticed the foot seems to be painted black. The only other ProMax 225 I have seen is a 1997 but it had the low water pick up and the polished aluminum foot...I think it is aluminum anyway. What did/does come standard with a 225 ProMax? Maybe it is one of those USA/Canada things?

The black gear-case is the Torquemaster gearcase. Same tough internals as the Sportmaster coned case, but standard bullet for Checkmates and other heavy hulls. The Torquemaster has the shape of the Fleetmaster (standard case) but with lower water pickups. The Torquemaster and Sportmaster have the heavier internals for surfacing the prop. The Fleetmaster is made for large boats that will not surface the prop. The Sportmaster with the cone is for this motor also, but for light boats that have aerodynamic lift and achieve speeds greater than 83 mph.

There was no real "standard gearcase for the Pro Max's, it was up to the dealer to order the appropiate case for the boat it was going on. When I was around the Mates, we always ordered the torquemaster because the Mates were not fast enough for the sportmaster. If you like the aluminum look, you can have a Hot Rod builder strip the paint and polish the case. I did this with the gear case on my motor I just traded and I am going to do it on my Bravo 1 when it gets here. Warning, if you like the polished look, it need to be repolished after everytime you run it. The heat generated gets rid of the nice mirror finish in a hearbeat. It only takes about 10-15 minutes to keep them polished with a beffer and good polish, but it is real messy

Actually, don't polish the case anymore. Mercury found on Lake X that leaving the case with a satin finish is the fastest. It's also ugly, but doesn't need any more work! If you look at the Mercury Labbed props, they are also satin finished now, not polished like the new 'stock' props...........

I am not worried about .25 mph. I like the way the polished case looks, and in my business, it is all about the show!!!!!!!!
It has been known for awhile that the polished stuff was slower, that is why we sand the bottom of the hulls.
Those extra MPH are only for those 80 MPH+ boats. I agree there with Bill, the boat can also be for show, so it has to look perfect, even when sitting on a trailer! http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif

A good friend of mine with a tunnel and a 260 EFI did a back to back test. He ran his case smooth painted, then sanded it off and made it satin on the boat ramp (good thing nobody was around). He gained over 5 mph! Just taking the smooth paint off and scratching up the aluminum. No other changes.
1995 2100BR/1995 225 Promax/23" Tempest
Sorry JW, for that situation, it would make a considerable differance, for mine, not much with just the gear case, I will have too much wetted surface and weight for it to make a big differance for my application. I will sand the bottom though to help break me loose. I am not going to spend the money on a labbed prop, too much crap in the river.
Oh yeah... Don't want to spend soo much $ on a prop you'd end up screwing up big. And remember, it may do good on a tunnel, but remember this is a big ZT we are talking about here...
