After I remove my rubrail by drilling the rivits is it OK to put it back on with screws or should rivits be used again?I am chasing leaks.I sealed from the inside with bad results. It doesnt leak as much but it still leaks at the front and I cant access it from inside the vessle. What is behind the board in the nose?Foam?I bet it is saturated with water.By the way my boat is a 92 starflight.Do the rivits get sealent on them before intallation?Sorry so many questions but these leaks are driving me batty! http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/brickwall.gif

you can rivit or screw. I like rivits better because they have a less tendancy to pull like screws.

Screws are fine, just make sure your using the correct size for the hole you have or you'll crack the gel coat.Put a little silicone on it before installing and it should be fine. There should also be a heavy duty sealer inbetween the the top and bottom halfs of the boat. That'll stop the leaking.

MAKE SURE YOU USE STAINLESS HARDWARE AND SEAL EACH HOLE WITH MARINE 5200. WITHOUT THE STAINLESS SCREWS YOU WILL EVENTUALLY WIND UP WITH A LOT OF RUST STAINS AND BROKEN SCREWS!!

ive heard some big stories about the foam fill behind that board up front, up to 80 lbs in one starflite here locally.
i pulled it all out of my enchanter and it did have alot of water in it, but not that bad.
i started by drilling a small "weep" hole at the very bottom of the board and actually had water run out of there onto the carpet.
as far as the rub rail, i removed mine for the new gel coat i had done and put it back on with ss rivets, just like the factory had done it, i also used 100% silicone to seal the rail and rivets at the rear of the boat where water could get in, especially when beached.
good luck, if you check the foam in the front, keep us posted on the results, im curious.

If you can a great idea is to back the rivit up with a propoer sized stainlees washer. this will prevent it from pulling out.
