Hi,

I have a line on buying a 96 Checkmate playmate Jet boat. 67 hours on 120 HP Jet engine. $4900. Can anyone tell me if this is a good quality boat? What problems should I look for? I have heard about troubles with the Merc engines on these boats is it true? Somthing I should pass on or worth a look if the boat is nice? Thanks

The Checkmate hull was one of the very best quality of the little jet boats. And yes, the 120 has had some problems. What I don't know, is it problems because of ignorant owners, or a design flaw. The Johnson/Evinrude V-4 jet package was definitely a design flaw, those motors blew up regularly. Stay away from any little jet that used the OMC motor.
