I've been thinking of ways to protect my mate at the dock and this might be my answer.

It an alarm for houses usually, but it can be used onboard a boat. A cell phone plugs in and it can be set to call you or a monitoring company in the event of an alarm. You can add motion detectors, sirens and contact switches as necessary.

Just a thought to everyone protecting their investment.

helmich , unfortunatly ,its unlikely that our boats would be stolen and thereby traceable via gps ,its more likely that they would be broken into and engine parts , stereo and electronics stolen . boat gets trashed and you're out of action for too long. once bitten twice shy !!!! do you have to deal with anything similar ?

By all means I would rather see the whole boat stolen, rather than a stripped POS. Insurance would never cover my motor anyway. The agreed hull value would be better.

Therefore I'll take the cell call and head down to the dock with the assault rifle. The crooks will wash up sooner or later. SCREW EM!!!

i think that when you mount that gps-thing you have a chance. if you don't do anything you don't have a chance.

but i agree on your point that boatparts will be sold for the quick buck.(euro)

i know from a guy overhere, his car was hi-jacked, his wife shot, and the police tracked the hi-jacker down live on internet. they saw that he was on a highway on the way home with "his" new BMW 750il.
