How many of you guys have busted a prop. Heres what I saw (I was not in the boat) My buddy Chris (guy with Hydrostream Venus, 225 ProMax) was out running the boat Thursday (was not there either, going by what I heard). He was going 90 MPH + with a prop he borrowed for the day from a friend when all of sudden, he hears a clunk and the speed jumps down to the low 80's. Back on the hoist, you see a big chunk of of the prop, and the cavitation plate was a bit screwed up. Luckily it was not his 2500$ ET.... It will still be expensive to replace, but the main thing, he is OK and still is the boat. Its an experience we'll all eventually learn from, while others come earlier then they expect. Lets here your stories... http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

My 150 hp XR6 2.5 motor spun the Laser II 26" so hard at surfacing speeds that one day one of the blades gave out. I had come out of a corner with the motor still trimmed high leaving a wall of rooster tail and noticed when I let off that the motor was vibrating. Put the boat on the lift, and one of the three blades was hangin on by a thread. It had cracked from the leading edge straight back to 1/4" from the back of the blade. The blade was tilted aft about 1" at the leading edge. A few more feet of hammered throttle and the entire blade would have come off and flung itself who knows where.......
The prop was in new condition, not damaged in any way. About 2 years old. Mercury paid me 1/2 towards the price of another one.........

I have see it, but never had it happen to me. I give the prop a good once over prior to putting the boat in the water. As hard as I run the prop I am not taking any chances. But as JW pointed out, it can happen at any time.

It happened to my Dad on his bass boat. Blade came off and disappeared into the lake. It was fairly new too and OMC refused to give him a credit or compensate him.

Ah well....
