If I decide to keep it (which I guess I should), I will need to replace these cables. Is it a big job or fairly straight forward?
I should probably invest in a repair manual.

Hey 85 Predictor, Changing Th ethrottle and shift cables is a fairly simple job. Just make sure you connect both ends back the way they were and adjust you throttle with just enough tension to return the card's to idle and the shift cable (while turning the prop) so that it goes in and out of both forward and reverse equally. After that, a water test. Usually only a minor adjustment will be needed at this point. If you need cables, let me know how long and I will give you a great deal and have them shipped right to your door. Also, if you are running 22" M&W SS prop, I bet I can make your boat a little faster for a very low price! If I can help in any way, let me know. boatman
