i just purchased a 83 checkmate eluder with a merc 175 on it. it currently has a 22 p prop on it and i am wondering if i could get more speed out of a different prop. the boat currently does 59 with the jack plate up. the guy i bought it from says it will go faster by droping the plate but i havent tried it and the boat will be put away for the winter so any suggestions for spring will be great....thx, bill

A few details are need to key us in on what prop to run.
1, what is the lower unit height. This can be measured by going from the botttom of the boat center line to the fron tip of the lower unit. This will let us know how far below the bottom of the boat you are running.
2, What prop, (style and brand) are you running now.22p what?
3, How many RPM are you turning your current prop at WOT.
4, Water pressure, how much at WOT. You may be able to go higher with the motor.
My exspearance with a jackplate, the higher the faster. This works to a point, that point being when the prop no longer has a bood bite on the water to carry the bow. Then the boat will slow down.

this boat has a hydrolic lift plate so the hieght is adjustable to any amount while in the water and driving. the prop is a quicksilver s.s 22p. not sure about the water pressure. there is a guage but its not working now. cant be much to gettinbg it working again though.
