I pulled the boat out of the corner of the garage and hooked up the hose and ears and started it for the first time this year , it started right up and idled just fine for about ten minuites , then it quit and won't start again . Lots of fuel , no spark . Any way to test the sensor in the dist. or the amplifier ?

If its like GM cars of that year,Its probably the voltage module that is located in the distributor.I believe its black. They usually just quit like that. The coil is another possibility too.I had a 454 Senator also. Always liked that mid range throttle response! http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

I believe that you have a ThunderBolt IV ignition system for that year motor. If this is the case, there is a spark control box on one of your risers. This can also be the problem. First check for 12 volts to the coil, then check for a ground pulse to the coil. If you have both, the most likely the coil is bad. If you don't have 12 votls, check the wiring back to the igniton switch. It may be the plug on the motor. If you don't have the ground pulse, just change the pick-up in the distributor. If it is old, it should be done anyway, besides, it is a farily cheap part. If that doesn't work, then you have to go for the spark box. That goes for about $175.

Sunday morning , fired the motor up , ran it for about 20 min. , runs better than ever . Now all I need is some warm weather to go out on the lake , it's raining and 48 degrees now .
Thanks to all .
