ok...My boat has a bit of weathered teak and I am thinking of using a polyurethane to finish them to make them look good and hold up to the elements. Good idea or a bad one?

TIA

USE TEAK OIL ONLY ON YOUR TEAK !!!!! Urethane or varnish/shelac will peel real soon because of the oils in the teak. To brighten up your teak first use teak cleaner and steek wool to remove the old oils, dirt and mildue. After the teak is clean apply multiple coats to teak oil untill you get the desired finish. If you maintain the teak with oil you should only have to clean it after 2-3 years. I would suggest removing the teak strips from the boat and screw then down to a piece of wood for cleaning and the first 2-3 coats of oil. I would not recommend cleaning them or doing the inital sealer coats of oil on the boat. To keep the teak nice and bright apply a real light coat of oil every time you take the boat out

That Ambassador you got is the cleanist 20 year old boat I've ever seen... Great buy !!!!
The price sure was right... Looks like it's never been near the water much less run....
