Yes I think Checkmate is a very good company, but they realy are getting left behind when it comes to the graphics options that the customer has to chose from. They say they are a custom boat builder, then let the customer have his boat the way he wants it if he is willing to pay for it.

http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gifCheckmate has many different colours you can choose from on your new boat. They may only have 3-4 different graphics packages, but with all the colours it does make your boat your own. I like the new ZT graphics... http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I see you have made my point, only 3or4 choices.

Bill
01-24-2003, 08:43 PM
If you take the time to talk to Kip at the Factory, you will realize the variety of choices you have. I racked my brains out for a couple of monthes trying to decide how to have my boat built. They may not offer unlimited graphics like some manufacturers, but I would bet that they are paint, not gel and if you want to go with paint, buy a white boat and have it painted. It cost me roughly 1200 bucks for hull graphics and about another grand for deck graphics if I wanted them, to get a good quality paint job on a hull and deck will start around five grand and I know someone who paind 35 grand for paint on a 32 foot boat. I would say Checkmate is better than most in their offerings

http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gifYeah, that is what I meant and how Bill explained it. I say there as approximatly 12-15 different colours, and there are 3-4 different places for the paint on the boat and 3-4 different packages. Lets see how my math is, and I will use 15 for easy purposes. 13(colours) times 4 (colours on boat) equals 52 different places for each colour and times that by 4 for the graphic options and that is around 208 different choices if I am not mistaken. If you ask me, you have many choices to choise from, but only the few exact patterns...

http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif Most companies that have the radical graphics are using paint, Powerquest, Fountain, Marine Technology,Formula, all use paint.. Looks awesome, but.. it burns off.. Marine Technology builds million dollar cats, they transport the boats in winter un-shrunk wrapped because any rubbing will burn the paint off. With the gel graphics, it's easier to touch up, rub out, generally fix.. sometimes graphics get to personalized, to radical, then they get dated, hard to sell on the used market. The silent partner of our local Formula dealer just has a 380 Fastech painted locally, I heard $30,000... most places won't touch a boat for less than 10K...It's all a matter of what you want to spend.. speaking of graphics, I've got a sneak preview of Bills..will be posting them soon! http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif

Thanks Chris for posting Bills "dreamboat"! http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Not to get technical, but for the guys that don't own a ZT series, if you look at the bottom picture, you can see the inverted hull. A stepped hull runs throught the complete boat, often times creating really radical, angled steps, in some brands even dangerous. The Checkmate hull is actually a traditional hull, then it's "cut" and brought straight up about an inch. This is just enough to free the "friction" between the hull and water, but far enough back, and small enough it doesn't cause other issues common with other brands stepped hulls like... turning! Just an FYI.. Rick http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I like the Checkmate Graphics too... Even though they don't get too fancy with them, I like the way to boat looks with a solid colour on the hull, like a red or a yellow, then black and white to fill in the rest... My opinion... http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Hey Z! Yeah, I love the ZT lines and everything about the boat, It is the perfect package for me. I will say this about my graphic package, I did NOT go with the ZT graphics. Kip and I are throwing some "retro" in it. Just a little teaser.

God, I know the difference between painting and gelcoat, and what I meant by where you live is, there is a guy up there who does good painting for graphics, which I would not want. Maybe I misunderstood what you wrote, sometimes it is difficult to understand what you write.
