My season has just ended abruptly. Was cruising,my rpm's plummeted, and my 82' 200hp Mercury just died. Opened her up today, and it looked like a gunshot wound in block right behind wear the solenoid is located. I wish I could perform an autopsy on the engine to figure out the cause of death. I'm guessing too much heat, but how I dont know. Can I repair a hole in the block, or do I need a entire new one? If anybody knows someone with a block laying around, let me know.

I am by no means an O/B expert, but have done my share of motor work and everytime I have seen a hole in a block it has meant catastrophic damage internally as well. In my experience it is most often caused by a rod failure, or some other type of failure leading to a rod failure. Good Luck
