Does anyone know if 85 starflights have the "dreaded" foam core, or are they balsa or otherwise? Everything on my 85 seems solid, floor, transom, etc. but am still concerned due to so many negative postings on scream and fly about the foam cores. thanks . E.

It sound be balsa. Mate started using the balsa cores in the mid 70's.

I just checked the '84 brochure in "The Showroom" and it says basla core. The Starflite model isn't in the 84 brochure so
85 must have been the first year for that model. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Thanks for the info guys, Im new to the whole checkmate experience. Previous boat was a 68 donzi 2+3, all very glass, all very solid. I like the mate much better though, not only more room with the v birth, but much more stable over 60 mph. The donzi was a handfull at speed. Thanks again E.

I believe the 1st year of the balsa core was 78, my 75 is soilid glass. Thank the boating gods for that. One less thing I had to rebuild.
