Anyone use United Marine for their boat insurance? I have Progressive with a yearly premium of $ 1,200 for a 2001 ZT280. I did a quick quote from an e-mail sent by United and the premium was under $ 600 for the same coverage.

I got the same email and tried to do a quick quote. It wouldn't let me because I indicated a top speed of 75 mph.

However, I got a quote from them about 1 month ago and it was way higher than Progressive for the same coverage - I think the Progressive was $580 and United Marine was $960.

The "quick quote" I received was not accurate. When I called to check their numbers they said they would have to re-quote since the boat goes over 60mph. The new number was over $ 1,400. Looks like I'm staying with Progressive.

Make sure you check with State Farm. They've been the best price for me, as long as your boat only goes 69.99 mph.............. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/graemlins/thumb.gif

I pay around $400 a year for my 25' Convincor using State Farm. They never asked how fast it went, but they did ask for the engine size. I'm also insuring a newer Eagle Trailer too.

I've been with them for about 8 years, and the price never changed much. I've only had 1 claim, when I ripped off the trim tabs. Rates stayed the same.

Hi BigMoss, Yes, the boat is covered under my house insurance which is a group policy through work - The Personal

My previous boat was covered with Bayside and the rates were not too bad either, here's the link

how does boat insurance work? say someone runs into my boat while it is parked on the street and ruins the outboard. The motor is a 1974 merc 1150. they wouldn't send a check for $8000 to get a new motor would they?

I think it all depends on how you have it covered, meaning if you have it isured as a package or if you have each piece broken down with an individual value.

I carry only a rider for liability on my parents homeowners policy, and auto owners insureance will only cover me up to 110 hp, So now I am not even covered for liability, since I have a 115 on the mx-16, which is well with in the boats capacity.
