View Full Version : Nominations for July's Boat of the month

We need two new pics to go into our boat of the month poll that will be held a little later this month.

It's summer time! Let's see some good new ones! We didn't get much of response last month. There should be no excuses now, this is the peak season. And remember, if your boat doesn't make it first time round, there's always next month, so let's get lots of pics rounded up now before the season is over. http://checkmate-boats.com/graemlins/surf.gif

I like the look of Mich Pulse's Mate that Chris just posted on Picture this... great shots, bad looking boat...

I will nominate him for boat of the month, Chris, ask him which view he likes best for the voting... they are all good!

Well, I am still hoping to be able to grab some pics of my boat in the next two weeks (the boathouse is getting duradeck and boatlifts now) and hope to enter my boat in July's BOTM. But I hate the idea of voting for my own boat, so I will go with Bigmoss' rig.

Bigmoss, I love the engine choice and I love the closed deck look. I have a Pulse 185 and was hoping to get the closed deck (in 7 years I have never had anyone sit up front!). Nothing beats a long sleek closed bow IMO. Great looking boat.

What speeds do you see with the 200???? Are ya close to 80?? I just switched to a 200 EFI 3.0L from a 175 2.5 L Merc. I also run it with a laser II performance prop. I havent taken the boat out yet since it was rigged with the new engine and I wont be able to for at least another week to ten days.

Ya I love the look of a closed deck also which is why I bought this one, according to the coast guard sticker the boat is "over powered" but I cannot imagine it with anything smaller, I feel I am lacking even with the 200 Opti. I was finally able to get insurance after tons of calls but it had nothing to do with the over sized motor it was all judged on top "possible" speed.

Yes I am getting 95 to 104 mph on the speedo and 79-82 on GPS, I love the boat, it does chine walk a little at about 70-75 or so but you drive right through it in seconds and all flatens out. I have been driving boats for years but until this one most have been inboards, so this beast took some getting use to but it was well worth it. Does not matter what beach or event we go to this rig seems to get all the looks and comments even over the colorfull Baja's etc, there is just something about the long closed deck and that huge black beauty on the back that gets them drooling http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Hey Bigmoss:

How do ya think a 225 merc would work on my 185 pulse? I found a decent priced 3.0 non promax 2003 model, need to change th mid section to the shorter one.

Bigmoss

I think it would work well I am looking at upgrading to a 225 myself, I thought about a 300 but have heard they are just to crazy scary, but then again hard to scare me lol, would be nice to try one first on a similar boat.

Let me know what you find

JGreen,

I think the Pulse 185's and 186's are built for 225's, seeing as they are even a bit heavier than the 21' Pulsares...good luck trying to get it insured though, if you can, do it in a second. I called about ten different companies and none would insure me on a 225 EFI, so i had to settle for a 200 (which sucked as i could have got the 225 for only 600 more bucks - a good deal for an extra 25 ponies especially for resale). I hope you can find an insurance company!!

Thanks for the return post Bigmoss.
