I just bought an 86 Ambassador (see pic in 'Picture This'). I think I got a great deal on it. The guy who had it previously did a bunch to it. He replaced the stock 350 with a .040 over 350, balanced, bigger cam, yada yada. He said the shop says it's about 300HP. He also replaced the floor, cabinets, motor mounts, and all the interior except the cabinets under the dash. He also re-bushed the outdrive, put new gimbal bearing, bellows, etc. I was impressed with his work (he had pictures of the work as he did it).

Anyway, my question is: I've heard of getting a splitter for your exhaust where you can either run through your outdrive or through the hull. I'd love to add this, and the guy I bought it from said that when he replaced the engine, he replaced the risers with upgraded (angled?) ones that were made for the thru-hull exhaust. I'm not sure of the size, but I can check tomorrow. Please let me know what the hot ticket is for this setup on my boat.

Thanks!!!
Greg

Are they a polished stainless steel? More than likely they're the newer 4" riser. They would be black and the 4 bolts are about 6" long that secure them to the manifold. Big $$$ to change to silent choice exhaust. Check ebay and you might find something. Quick way for thru-hulls,cut off and seal up the "Y" pipe.Run 4" exhaust hose to your newly mounted 4" stainless tips. Now they'll hear ya coming! http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif

I found a few silent choice setups on ebay for $300-800. Is that a decent deal? Do y'all know what I'll need besides the "Y"s and the tips? Should I run open tips or the "CORSA QUICK & QUIET" tips?

Adios-

Thats a good deal but you gotta make sure they're gonna fit in your motor compartment.I know its tight in there. If they will fit you have to make sure they're gonna mate up with the "Y" pipe that exhausts out the drive.I believe the "Y" pipe is oval shaped,so check it out.I'd go with the open tip, your engine will thank you because it can finally breath! They do have tips with silencers too.
