I have a question regarding my trim gauge on my 1988 Enchanter 350 V8 260hp/alpha one drive. When boat is started, the trim guage is immediately pegged in the full trim position regardless of where motor actually sits. I just bought the boat and was told it was just one wire that needed to be connected at the back by the outdrive. We did find 4 wires total on the outdrive total, and one was not connected so we connected it and it still didnt fix this. Has anyone experienced this before or have any insight on what this might be. Any help is greatly appreciated. Why would it be in the pegged (UP) position??? Please help!!!
Thanks in advance.......

I had a problem with my trim gauge earlier this year, it seems the trim sender on the outdrive was bad. This was located in a round housing on the lower right hand side of the outdrive. There was a small disc inside that had one of the tabs broken off.

Jason,
I think I know what you are talking about as far as the housing, but I think my motor has the housings on both sides of the motor, and how did your gauge react when the tab broke off? Was it in the pegged position like mine is? Thanks in advance again!

Your sending unit is probably bad.The unit on the left side is the trim limit switch. That adjusts how high the drive goes when you use the trim button.Try loosening the two screws on your right side unit.Turn your key on and move the disc back and forth. If the guage stays pegged the unit is bad.I beleive the replacement kit is about $90.00 from Merc.
