I was looking through my summit racing catalog and happened upon 2 different brands of Fuel injection upgrades for carbuerated engines. Anyone out there have any experience with anything like this? I have an 88 350 mag and was thinking of trying this. They say that it is programmable by a laptop. Any input or thoughts would be great.
On a side note, I just got back from the Cleveland boat show. Where was Checkmate. Actually I thought there were very few performance companies there.

If it is not marinized, stay away from it, and Summit does not sell marine parts. You should contact Rick from Bayview Marine. They can handle your performance needs.

I THINK I WOULD AGREE WITH BILL IF ITS NOT FOR MARINE APPLICATION I WOULNT PUT IT ON A BOAT WITHOUT AN OPINION FROM A BOAT SALES OR MANUFACTURE.

I don't think the marine engine is set up for an automotive type efi system. I could be wrong. Let us know what you find out.

Might have to have a go at it! Be a great test, and if you took digital pix and wrote down everything, I'd bet a boat mag would love to put up your article on it.....
Another thought, many boats come from the factory with a new 350 Mag MPI that just gets pulled out and replaced with a built big block. There's also a lot of blown motors out there with EFI. You may be able to get the actual Mercury system complete for a low cost and put that on your motor.

THanks for all the input. Anyone have leads on a small block EFI and also, what HP/Torque increase might I expect?

I have to ask you what you ultimate goal is to attempt this modification? To take advantage of this, you would most likely have to do a cam change as well. The only advantage to EFI is easier start-ups, a bit better fuel distrubution and a bit better fuel economy. What you loose is tuneability. In a carb. you can just change jets, in EFI you are locked in to a mixture unless you have the ECU re-mapped. Re-Mapping is where problems begin. I would not trust someone half way across the country to sett up the mixture in my motor just by me telling him my combination. If he guess's wrong and it burns a piston, who gets stuck with the repair??
If it were up to me, I'd get a new engine so you should have no worries. That might be out of your range...
Checkmates may not be the fastest boats on the water, but they are the nicest looking!
