That has a nice ring to it. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif
What a great suprise...it's not every day that you have a thread started for you http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Well The boat is still in storage right now so i dont have any updated pics but here are a few to get things started. I still cant beleive how clean this boat is. I checked the bottom hull and there isn't even a scratch in the gel from beaching or launching. the rub rail is the same way. Adam, your friend must have really loved this boat, or never used it.
I am going to rig it with a manual jackplate w/ 6'' of setback for now until I can afford a Hydraulic JP. I plan on changing the carpet, Installing a clarion sterio ( mounted under the dash....I couldnt bring myself to cut it), New Guages w/ water pressure, tach, spedo and fuel, pop up cleats and a new snap on cockpit cover.

Thanks man. These pictures really arent that really that great too...they make the boat look orange and gold but in person its almost like a candy apple red and bright silver.. I cant wait to buff it an really bring out the shine.
The sportfire has a stepped hull and a pad.
I love how the color of the motor matches the boat too. Ironicly its the same year as the boat which I think is pretty cool.
I saw a 7'' jackplate on Rickracers that I was thinking about getting but I'm wondering if thats too much setback???
I know that some of you guys have been in, or owned one of these bad boys, so does anyone have any advice? thanks

you may not want to go over 5". i know on my boat it would be too much. well if you go with a hydro you can lower it for take off. 7" would work then.

i did alot of searching. i found mine at rick racers. if your a member of s/f you get a discount.
Cheapest is usually basspro.com Usually $199 from them. I think there was a guy on here selling jack plates though, can't remember who it was! Maybe do some searching of this board. Rickracer never could give me better pricing than I could find elsewhere.............................

i paid 205 for mine last year. its black. its the bobs 5 in 1 jack. i have it set up at the -6 degree trim. it helps stop porpusing at low speeds.

no no no i paid 205 for a bobs 5" man. i would look at the bobs since it has the - trim. with the weight out further you need the bow to be pushed down at low speeds.

Negative trim is good for holeshot too right...
what do you mean a 5'' bobs for 205 I thought that you had a 6'' hydraulic bobs JP Matt?...I was looking at those and they are big bucks. I was also looking at some used ones on S&F and found some others that were in the 500 price range.

Is that one easy to adjust? I do alot of kneeboarding and tubing Im just wondering if there is a happy medium where you can get good holeshot and great top end? If worst comes to worst I could always just have a ratchet in the boat to adjust it whenever I need to. The negative trim is a must though
how high do you run the 200 matt? 2 1/2'' below the pad?
illMATTic
12-30-2005, 06:34 PM
this one you have to adjust both sides. im pretty sure it is the only one offered with the - trim. if you are going to be moving it often you will want a single bolt adjustable.
detwiler has one you can adjust on the water. its a really nice looking unit.
i am running 1.5 to 2 below. it is he first place i tried. i havnt moved it. i will most likly play with it this season.
The $199 CMC 6" jack plate is adjustable by one bolt on the water (from the top to boot) and is attached in the middle, unlike that bobs that is two separate pieces.

Thanks for the tips JW and IllMATTic... I think I'm gonna go with the CMC with some - trim wedges...not sure though, I still wanna do a little more reaserch...I was thinking about buying a used HD jp from S&F but i am a bit weary of used equipment...I dont know I change my mind every day... http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
where can I find out more about detwiler JPs?

BostonCan: Heres a pic of my Old 89 SportFire. I bought it in spring of 91. It was perfect. It had an older 90hp on it. I put an inline 150hp tower of power on it.With a 21p ss It would run 53/55mph.
But being a bigger guy it would fall off the pad to my side.I'd end up up placing myself between the seats & below the wind shield for the best all out ride.
A V6 really wakes this boat up.I had 3 guys in a sportfire and a 135v6 fly by me like I was in mud.
If would like to see more pics of this boat go to page 7 of pic this about 1/2 down and hit mercs245 victim. goodluck at topend.

Merc245, Thats some Sportfire you had there http://www.checkmate-boats.com/graemlins/thumb.gif You gotta love the metal flake on the Checkmates, its a classic. http://checkmate-boats.com/graemlins/surf.gif
I saw your accident photos. I bet it hurt you more than just physicaly. What a nice boat that was I'm sure you miss it, then again you got a awsome Starflite out of it. I was wondering Do you have any more pics other than the accident photos, and where did the boat go when it was fixed?
Im hoping to set personal speed records with this checkmate! can't wait to get the numbers!
